She wasn't giving a lecture on the works of Nadine Gordimer at the Sorbonne . . .
Dunno about Nadine Gordimer, but if she delivered a treatise on Foucault while in the nuddy she's be a shoo-in for an honorary doctorate.

. . . one big fucking dog whistle
"Mums and dads" coming from any politician is inherently patronising and condescending. "Everyday parents" is creepily reminiscent of 2005's "mainstream".

Imagine a campaign that goes "It's not ok (except...)". Not likely.
Right. Pretty much equates to 'everything after but is bullshit'.

That Kiwis Care thing must have been one of the strangest fleeting movements in NZ history.
You're not wrong LegBreak.
I watched the march from the Rip it Up/SnakeShirts window above the Queen & Victoria Streets intersection. To prove the crowd's malleability Hal Chapman leaned from the window and exhorted the crowd to sing God Defend New Zealand. A few of the Caring Kiwis actually took it up, in a rather self-conscious and faltering fashion. Later that year, from the same window, I witnessed Dean Buchanan's near-single-handed hijacking of a pro-tour march. Masterful stuff.
Once again, we live in interesting times.

Intersesting that you're thinking of the Kiwis Care phenomenon too. What was it about? At the time it felt like union-bashing.
Whatever, your date is three years out - according to the National Sound Archives that march occurred on March 4 1981. -
On the Harolds site the comments just seem to come out of thin air and so have little substance, just a bitternes that exposes the contributors shallowness of thought.
Provide the bucket and they'll vomit.
Meanwhile the 'Medical Matters' thread here at PA has swollen to twenty-something pages, for little purpose other than providing a playpen for a single obsessive trollfoetus.

James Bremner, Feminist Theorist. Now I've really heard it all!t
And with nary a hairy armpit, too. Bewdy.

Back in '72 Mudoch's Australian papers pushed hard for a Whitlam victory, while Fairfax and Packer (Frank, Kerry's dad) were plugging for the Liberals. He's a pragmatic old bastard when it suits.

Besides, you guys can't have it both ways: he's either 'shallow', in which case he doesn't believe anything, including what Wright says (so: awesome! What are we worried about?); or he's deeply involved in the church, in which case he's closely tied to Wright (so: bad. But hang on, it's not 'shallow', which therefore makes it: awesome!). Which is it?
Deep down, he's really shallow?

You don't think trying to compare apartheid South Africa with modern China is just a wee bit of a contrivance?t
Probably - but if you wanted to put your money where your mouth was back in '81, all you had to do was swear off drinking Nederburg. No great hardship. For those currently ranting online against China, in most cases itd mean giving up their computers and sitting at home in the nuddy.
