This is more evidence for my Grand Unifying Theory of HR, which is that it is the devil's work and should be flung into a fiery abyss.

  • Hard News: Game Lorde, in reply to Bart Janssen,

But it isn’t some bloke shouting over a badly played guitar or some girl whining the same three words 27 times over a drum machine and some sampled song from the 70’s.

    Sigh.

  • Hard News: Jonesing,

it’s really an indictment on the courage of the women concerned

Because everyone banging on about how terrible "identity politics" are for Labour's chances - that has absolutely no effect on how women in the party might feel about taking on leadership roles?

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Partners in Vacancy,

No, no, I'm calling you a fogey because you said it was a bad take on "Got To Give It Up", and I think, lyrics and video aside, it's a fun, peppy-sounding take on it. You're an *instrumental* fogey. ;)

(And yeah, I know dude be old. I remember "When I Get You Alone". Didn't it have a video with him as a bike courier?)

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Partners in Vacancy, in reply to Russell Brown,

The rapey douchebaggery is sort of tangential to the point, though, Russell. I'm just talking about how I enjoy the sound of the song, not whether or not it's lyrically objectionable. (Of course it is. But so are a lot of things.)

I have no right whatsoever to shut you up. I'm merely expressing a sincere wish that you would. :)

Dude, I'm not trying to make you laugh. I'm trying to shut you up.

The key to being funny is, I am reliably informed, making your audience laugh. Perhaps you could go on some sort of course for that?

Here is what the two points you made boil down to:

    1. Mothers SHOULDN’T think about anything but looking after their children;
    2. Mothers are not actually CAPABLE of thinking about anything but the fate of children.

I could not disagree more thoroughly with your post. In fact, I would like to encourage your post to bite me.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Partners in Vacancy,

Thicke’s Blurred Lines is a stupid, misogynistic song with an even stupider and more misogynistic video.

This is belated. But I feel like I must, in the interests of honesty and not-just-saying-stuff-on-Twitter-ism, note that I pretty much totally enjoy the song and may call Russell a fogey about it next time I see him. :) "Hey-hey-hey."
