We undervalue wisdom.
I've had my share of menial jobs that I rather enjoyed in an odd way, and were means to an end, and furthermore I had older colleagues who also didn't seem to mind them or be overly distressed that their wisdom wasn't being valued, and enjoyed work camaraderie and being out and about and making a bit of money. Which I guess is my way of saying that Subway isn't a Dickensian hellhole, and that we shouldn't make blanket assumptions.

But our youth employment rates are a real crisis with enduring consequences and we’re one of the worst nations.
I wonder if we’re so bad relative to other developed nations because our job market has been flexible (read: completely tilted towards the employers) for longer, and so there aren’t older generations whose work is more secure but also dearer than the newcomers’. And so you might as well hire somebody with experience, since you can fire them at will anyway and treat them in all ways like most other nations treat school leavers and young apprentices.

Wellington is plainly messed up.
Some of the schools I’m referring to that have been closed were affected by… some rain. And possibly the odd teacher from out of town having concerns about the commute. It does beggar belief somewhat.

but it last snowed in central Auckland *before World War II started*. Yow!
I hope this doesn't imply causation.
