I have been to Te Kaha for family holidays and agree. The coastline will make it very difficult to assess the damage, let alone clean it up. The sea life there is so exuberant but it will be hard pressed to resist this.

I think, little cards like they had in the old days and you can hand them to people so that they know who you are. You could write suggestions for topics on them:
"I DO NOT wish to talk about Prince Albert's piercing!" -
merc, those events look great. I think that they might examples of how our culture can pick up the ball and run with big events (I'm so sorry for that metaphor, I just got it back from the shop).
That is what I think a culture should be doing and sport, as a normal everyday activity will feed into it. I am wary of a country such as ours investing too much cultural significance in professional sport. -
The Tour put me off rugby for awhile and I've always been a soccer Nancy anyway (come on you Hammers). Then we went to live in Melbourne and they have that other football which is like a religion but more serious (if equally incomprehensible).
So I lost interest for a long time.
These guys seem all right, though, no real animals and about the usual levels of stratospheric egos but I think having professional sportsmen so important to a culture has very real dangers. The talkback radio at the time of the Cardiff disaster was straight-out psychotic.
Yeah, be interested and passionate and enjoy the thing, have a great time! But realise that it is just a game. While we might share some of ideals that the game does, strength, agility, whatever, those are part of the picture, we have to be a bit deeper than that, I think. -

This is the main problem. The French appear to have internal strife with the coach and senior players, they haven't really fired and they were lucky against Wales. Ominous
