Sanctimonious or what?
There's a lot of it about. Seems to be very prevalent amongst celebrity columnists and National campaign managers

The saga has reached the Guardian's Media site although without much comment, yet

Hard News: A week being a long time in politics, in reply to
I find the totalitarian circular logic of Joyce the most disturbing aspect of all this. It seems he cares nothing for morals, ethics or common sense in justifying his actions. He just needs the polls. The polls reporting opinion formed by his careful media manipulation and bullying. It a frightening glimpse into the mind of a man where morality is replaced by majoritarian rule, with the majority being where he decides it should be.
Listening to Joyce on Morning Report this morning left me near apopleptic at his smug arrogance. As you say everything is sacrificed for short term polls where the only plan is to be re-elected.

Hard News: Criminalising Journalism, in reply to
Spot on Keir. I'm pretty certain that if the meeting had happened in either Australia, the US or the UK the press would have released the transcript by now, either that or employed lip readers to translate. Even Sarah Palin would blanch at calling in the police a week out from an election. Russell's point that media organisations being raided for reporting on an election is just wrong is unarguable (no matter your personal view of the media)

Muldoonism anyone?

Outstanding. Thank you for posting this. I hope you got a standing ovation.

I blame John Key (and Standards & Poor). Fingers crossed for RIchie that no more potential bad news for the government happens before the semi-final. Hopefully even Murray McCully would have blanched at John and Bill's demands for a ritual sacrifice after the ratings downgrade.
On second thoughts probably not. Twatcock.

I'm hoping someone will match an after-match speech I heard when I was coaching Tepapa-Onehunga: the losing Mt Wellington skipper began with "Youse c**ts were lucky" and later when accepting a MOTM award he began "Sorry for calling youse all c**ts".

I was lucky enough to be at the last two Maori-Lions matches. 1993 was a cracker whilst 2005 had the best atmosphere I've experienced in NZ, epic match.

What about England Scotland at Eden Park on 1st October? Wouldn't it be hilarious to see Jonny Wilkinson miss a sitter as England go down 9-6?
