At the moment I can kind of hear Mr Simply from my house as they play to the matrons of Hawkes Bay at Church Road winery. At least they have a nice night for it. Nice to see you've organised a gig at the Cabana Mr Scott.

I have to say the mens hockey team put me through the ringer a bit earlier in the evening being 3-1 up and ending up going to penalty strokes. The English team looked about as dejected as the aussie netballers did later on. It was a top effort from both Black Sticks teams and as an ex player it's been good to see so much hockey over the last 2 weeks.

Not sure where to post this but I guess this music thread is as good as any but just heard that Ian Morris died last night. Since he moved to Hawkes Bay he's been a fixture at the Cabana doing sound and playing in bands, recording and mixing and generally being a good guy for music here.

And in breaking news Mr Henry is on the front page of our local paper. Apparently he is licking his wounds at his holiday bolthole somewhere in Hawke's Bay and was seen stocking up at a local supermarket and happy to pose for a photo with a shopper. Can you take him back please?
On a related note I'm impressed with my own children for challenging their Facebook friends who have joined in on the FB support for PH pages. -
Just a question-Does the Groove Guide get released anywhere other than the main centres with a Real Groovy store in it. If so where does that place us out here in the provinces.

After his diatribe about the NZEI's silent treatment of Tolley and primary teachers response to National Standards last week sometime I quite like the idea of PH touring schools. It would give him an insight into the reality of things as opposed the slavish following of the Tolley line on National Standards.

Funnily enough here in HB I'm not as enthused about gig going-but that could have something to do with the need to travel to see anything apart from the usual winery concerts we get each summer. And there's nothing I'd put myself out to travel to see at the moment anyway. But if you're out and about in Auckland tonight top HB band Devils Elbow are playing the new band night at Shadows in support of their great new album. If you're into alt country/Replacements rock and roll they're a good band and feature Andrew once of Garageland on drums.

Okay crusty old bugger post. Saw Dave Dobbyn last night on his acoustic church tour with the Dukes and LA Mitchell. He did a great job I thought playing some deep cuts (Bell Tower) and new songs, slowed down Be Mine Tonight and dispensed with Loyal early in the piece. Dukes and Mitchell along with Ross Burge backed him up nicely. Respectful audience made it almost recvital like. He was in good humour too.
And another old man has some new music out shortly

The Roller Deby phenomonem has now reached Hawkes Bay with a team recently being formed. I believe they have the odd contest with the Palmy crew. -
I'm not sure it's for me and there are other ways I could/should be spending my money but this is cool. Squeeze with their keyboard player playing a piano app on an Ipad. Great song too.
