  • Up Front: Hellfire's a Promise Away,

What I remembered, when I found out what Michael Praed was in, was a shot of Will Scarlet, played by Ray Winstone, climbing up a ruined castle’s wall. Because of where the camera was, Will Scarlet was revealed to be wearing a pair of Doctor Martin’s boots

I remember that, vividly. He swings his leg over the parapet, and you see the entire sole of the boot, complete with very obvious branding.

When she was planning her future family she said, "I'll need a boy. I'll probably get one of those at university".

That was pretty much my plan throughout adolescence

My plan for uni was slightly more complicated: find a rich boy doing law or commerce or something and marry him. His infatuation with my skill base would make him perfectly happy to work to support me so I could sit home and write books.

Fortunately for everyone, the two handsome men from 'good' families I tried dating were both jerks.

So, does that mean you still own a Clannad album?

I owned their Robin of Sherwood album right up until we moved. I bought it on vinyl because the record came with lots of pictures.

Nice. What comes through here is your enduring respect for and admiration of your partner. It is a very good basis for enduring love.

I just spent nearly a week off with friends, drinking, playing games, and then swanning round Auckland with the Blog and Famous. He took three afternoons off work to mind the kids, washed the windows, hung up my garden thermometer, fixed the leaking toilet and set up a wireless network. I'm considering declaring him a god and setting up a religion, because the only way he could be any cooler is if he was tax-deductable.

Is there a word for when you make a typo and it turns out better or more appropriate than what you actually intended?

    Serentypody?

  • Hard News: Just Friday,

Reading a bit further on it was 1 in 20, 30-49yr old men who came from a group of 200 gay men who go to sexual health clinics, FFS.

If you ever run into someone quoting the stat that 20% of internet pornography is child pornography? That comes from a 1994 analysis of pictures posted to Usenet.

Analysing statistics around sex is always good for a laugh.

Also, behold the horror of the Terry Goodkind TV show. By the guy that did Xena. With Guy Warner... erm... Craig Parker as the super bad guy

Low budget, syndicated, objectivist bollocks! Hilarious.

As I said when I first heard about this, at least they're not fragging something I love.

In fact, let me quote from that link, and the always apposite jsr:

I have read Atlas Shrugged already, and rolled my eyes at it. I don't need to read it again while it's wearing a wizard hat and robe and calling itself Faith of the Fallen

The plan at the first match against Australia was for the other opener (Larson?, kinda pudgy guy)

    Rod Latham, I think?

While you're looking for it, have a search for The Creeping Terror, which is equally delightful. A giant piece of carpet wiggles slowly and completely unmenacingly towards its hapless victims, who basically have to leap into it of their own free will in order to fulfill the 'terror' part of the plot.

Ha, yes! I wouldn't have seen nearly so much appalling scifi if it wasn't for Alice's.

I know that Wellington library, at least, has several copies

I think there's one circulating round the Chch libraries, cause I've read them all.

Those who like their spec-fic to make sense might enjoy E.E. Knight's dissertation on why Eragon sucks.

I smell some horrible jokes on that if he's still in charge next time we tour England

That's just not a game a team with Ryan Sidebottom in it should be playing.
