Why the hell does the media have to interview that misfit John Tamihere to pontificate about the current condition of the Labour caucus? He was last a Labour MP almost ten years ago and his political views are closer to National or ACT. That comment about Nanaia Mahuta was seriously uncalled for.

My own blog used to be far more discursive, but I had to close down the comments section due to a raving flock of fundamentalist dingbats. Sigh.

I think, though, that part of the problem is the weak self-regulation of the NZ media industries. The Broadcasting Standards Authority and Press Council are toothless when it comes to reining in the excesses of talkback radio and the ghastly Investigrunt magazine, and it was Paul Litterick who exposed the Bruce Logan plagiarism scandal, not the Press Council, or investigative journalism.
Still, I do take your point about media autonomy and freedom of speech, within the boundaries of copyright and defamation laws.

Meanwhile, at New Zealand First HQ, the celebration was in full swing...

Given the revival of New Zealand First and Banks, I think it's high time for the resurrection (...) of the joke political party. Given that Shaun of the Dead was also marketed as "Zombies Party" in some jurisdictions, I have just the appropriate name, too...
And here's my post-election analysis:
-
:( Labour on 28pc, revival of NZF, survival of ACT and United Future
:) Nats don't have absolute majority, Labour also won back some constituencies and gave Bennett a scare in Waitakere, ACT is probably finished after this and the Greens showed well. Also, the Conservatives didn't take Rodney.
-
Most ironic piece of party advertising: ACT anti-crime pamphlets that have Banks advertising "zero tolerance."
How appropriate...
-
What's the difference between the ACT Party and zombies?
Zombies are vastly more popular...

Speaking of low-rider media outlets, has anyone noticed that Investigrunt isn't in the mags section? And this at the same time as the Conservative Party manages breakneck organisational development (if not policy development, apart from religious social conservatism?) Serendipity or something else? Are we seeing a net-centred Investigrunt for particular reasons?

NB: Namesake, surely you meant Jar Jar Banks in that mangled Star Wars citation earlier? The resemblance is certainly striking. They're both vacuous, not very smart creatures fond of gobbledegook with pasts in questionable media products...?
