giovanni - you mean we can't fight despite agreeing? What kind of forum is this?

One where five pages of guys butting heads becomes so incredibly fecking tiresome you stop caring who's right.

Charles' inauguration ball won't be hosted by Jonathon Ross

Oh come on, that I'd watch. That's Jonathon Ross and Russell Brand, right?

I know the ways in which the media bludgeon us with the 'how much this matters' schtick can be silly. I admit that. But jeez, Craig, did you see that segment interviewing Medgar Evers' widow? Every time I see something like that I return to my original 'the president is black!' amazement level.

Yeah, me too. And you know what? When the US gets a gay president, it will be a Big Fucking Deal for me. Just for a couple of days, until it's time to start doing shit. I'm not begrudging anyone a couple of days of "I never thought I'd live to see this".

  • Field Theory: Every guy does it,

those new Aussie uniforms are pretty cool.

But pretty close to black in colour. What are they going to do when they play us next month? Oh wait, no, we play in Transformer Grey now, don't we...

Also, my son has just refused to have his baby-fuzz incipient moustache shaved off before beginning high school. Like all his other fashion decisions so far (both of them) I blame Daniel Vettori.

Out of interest, Do ALAC make many ads illustrating the positives of drinking or are they all mainly just demonising?

Yeah, they did a bunch featuring guys being the designated driver (the one with the drunk guy sitting in the back of the car making beeping noises as they back out of the driveway cracks me up), taking taxis, giving the guy in the bathtub a pillow, all that stuff. The 'you're a bloody legend' ones. The other 'it's not okay' ads also feature guys talking about doing the right thing, working to control their own violence, or intervening when their mates got out of hand. I have enormous respect for the sheer guts that must have taken for those men.

And oddly, when walking home from the pool yesterday I was passed by a bus with an AIDS campaign on the side. It featured a middle-aged woman and a slogan something like 'look beyond the stereotype'. Just sayin'.

  • Up Front: The Missus,

I was also the light-bulb changer (even though he was a foot taller)

My mother is odd about light-bulb changing. The bulb on her staircase is really hard to reach. Changing it was always my brothers' job - which made sense, as they're all over six feet tall. Or it was my husband's job - 5'11".

But after I'd left him, she asked my partner to do it. He's the same height as me - 5'8". He can't reach the freaking bulb any more than I can.

Since December I've met three who have been bitten, one of them on 3 separate occasions. What gives?

Well, I do know a guy who had a really nasty white-tail bite, but it may well be one of the people you're talking about.

  • Up Front: The Missus,

    Boysenberries , perhaps? :)

    Well, mostly ...

I'm sure my mum is quietly worried about who will save whom from spiders when my girl and I get CUed. Like we're both going be standing on a chair screaming to the other one "GET IT!".

    LOLZ

My partner used to be a bit leery of spiders, but I'm utterly terrified, so he's had to show a bit more ovarian fortitude. One of our 'psychic moments' involved him rescuing me from a shower-spider the size of my palm.

Okay, I give up. I'm such a girl.

Yep. As thick as the icing. A really good sweet & fat hit-

Y'know, I get the same vibe from this thread. The conversational equivalent of comfort food.

See the "not our future" ads get right on my tits - smug celebs being all holier than thou yet faux-hip.

Mind you as a non-smoker in her thirties I'm not exactly the target demographic there.

Ditto, unbelievably annoying. It's not the posing that bothers me, it's the absolute black and white preaching I find obnoxious.

So not the target demographic. But I have found the more absolute you are with teenagers, the less they listen.

  • Current Status: Holidays,

I've lived in Dunedin since 1993, and it was only this year (from my girlfriend, who has lived here since the 60s) that I heard of this alternative.

Segg? You mean Segg? We call it both, but I do refuse to give up on the 'Segg Head' joke.

I'm with Islander on the Boston Bun thing too: that's what we called them in Timaru thirty years ago. But I do wonder now where the name came from.
