  • Hard News: The Disingenuous Press,

I notice that Len Brown is not the one threatening to sue it is his council, which is proper in that they may have been defaimed
A bit murky asking for new tax invioces al the same

Still I am glad I don't have to make the choice between wee Banksie and a man who can't run his own credit card
    What is wrong with Auckland!

  • Legal Beagle: Because it is a big deal,

Good work Graeme this is certainly matches my take on the matter

I really like this idea of that Phil is floating of allowing a panel to keep an eye on this stuff
At the moment the checks and balances are supplied by the Civil Service who quite naturally have quite a different take on the use of public money compared with tax payers

  • Hard News: The Disingenuous Press,

    Sofie

It's those people without the credit cards that don't put themselves in the same shit, that has many struggling now

I take the point you are making but I find that it is the people with credit cards who are mostly in financial strife thanks to free use of other peoples money rather than those who don't own one

How many people don't have plastic and how many only have just one family credit card would be interesting to know especialy regarding Mayor Brown and some of the other MP splurgers

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

If you want double standards check out the latest spin from the "The Standard"

They equate JK going to to a strip club before he entered politics with Shane Jones and his mid night habbits and of course not understanding that when you sign for a card that says "not to be used for private consumption" that is what it means

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

About the one really funny thing in all this is watching the twisting and turning of the writers at the "The Standard" who surprise surprise have two standards

  • Southerly: Golden Lads and Girls All Must,

Lovely story David, poor ending though

Loved the thought of your subversive Grandmother using beef stock for your special "vegetable" soup

  • Up Front: Feeling Like Death,

Well done on the Metro thing, I will make point of reading it, if not buying, as it isn't really aimed at my demographic or rather geographic

Yes, I understand the draw of cemeteries. The last one I had a good wander around was where my father was buried, we checked out uncles and cousins and their cousins
If anyone still thinks the rural life is idyllic, it is an eye opener to see the various ways men die before their time while farming through bad luck, depression, poor judgement or gross stupidity.

What was Uncle Gordon thinking when he let a kid ride on the drawbar while backing in to attach a trailer

  • Hard News: A ramble through the Fourth Estate,

I think ScottY has nailed one of the important principals
We don't want it to be too easy to get rid of Judges

Another principal to remember is that judicial decisions are open to appeal. it is when they go all the way to the top swinging either way at each step that there is a concern that the law is an ass
But the appeal process allows mistakes to be corrected or is meant to

  • OnPoint: British American Tobacco,…,

I always feel conspiracy stories just a little weird, there just seems to be too much joining up of dots
Just check out the ravings of some right wing bloggers where just the fact someone checked out a book on socialism or their sister-in –law went on a march for freedoms enough to brand them a commie
The reminding of Keith Locke on his utterances on Cambodia is a classic demonstration of dot joining at its worst

So while I think this is in the public interest and well worth pointing out (you got a cheer from me this morning) the faint sound of black mail is distasteful
