Incidentally, as opposed to kereru & pipiwharauroa (& young thrushes), kotare rarely *kill* themselves by crashing into windows…
My aunty's had some success at deterring birds from flying into her windows with a variety of decoys, including a plastic magpie.

Always try and walk to the polling booth (about 10 minutes) to mull over any last thoughts (mine were Green vs Mana, but I stuck with Green).
I walked to the polling station too, even though I had nothing to mull over and it would have been more convenient to bike. I felt the need to be solemn rather than brisk. :-)

I have seen them kidding around though - stalling in mid-air and plummeting towards the ground and then suddenly flapping their wings and levelling out.

in summer our Kereru eat over ripe guavas and get drunk
I’ve heard they get tipsy when the fruit gets overripe but never seen it, how wonderful.
