Hmm, I hadn't thought of Banks' win this way before. But I wonder if Rudman is over-estimating Banks' dedication to the CBD rail link, and under-estimating his dedication to his own electoral success.

But if I’m thinking about that, how much of Green’s soft support will think the same way?
If you're thinking that, don't you also have to think about how much of the Greens' soft support will also think about how much of Green’s soft support will think the same way, and thus vote Green? Or how much of the Greens' soft support will also think about how much of the Greens' soft support will also think about how much of Green’s soft support will think the same way, and thus vote Labour? Hard News: The perils of political confidence, in reply to
It’s clever because, had Norman not been so over the top in his apology, it would have made the Greens look principled open and honest, without affecting their grass roots support
On the contrary, I think the whole thing makes the Greens look less than principled to the kind of voter we're trying to attract more of - voters who haven't voted Green before.

A member of a party is on a track, however small, to one day be in a position of power. It would be in the “interests” of a member to further the power of that party, in what ever way possible, power corrupts…
... and very little power corrupts very little. This doesn't square with my observations of other members at all.
