Good looking on the S.O.U.L BBoy edit - as the soundcloud page notes it has some infamy as the source of Pete Rock & CL Smooth's 'Go with the flow'. At least one of S.O.U.L's albums (and possibly both) had an Australian pressing BITD - another page in the 'the industry did that?' book for folks like me who find these things really interesting ...

Hard News: News Memories 2: The Twitter thread, in reply to
There was the Springbok tour of course .. although it wasn’t a single event, more of a rolling CF.
Yes absolutely. Maybe it was my age at the time, but I feel like the monumentality of the protests really crystallised in the years following and certainly by the time Nelson Mandela spoke at the Auckland Domain in 1995 there seemed little doubt about who was on the right side of history so to say. Sidenote; for a school project I interviewed CK Stead about the protests (he lived down the street), which I have always thought was pretty good of him given his somewhat curmudgeon reputation. My mum also took photos of the Eden Park protests.

The responses also show quite a degree of commonality. Memories cluster around a relatively small number of signal events, which crop up repeatedly.
Yes - they're usually disasters. or some atrocity.
I was pondering why nothing from the early 80's had stuck with me - as opposed to the Rainbow Warrior in 85 - and it basically came down to a few quiet years disaster wise, which sounds a tad morbid but one hypothesis nonetheless.

For me its the 1984 Olympics due to school projects and the USSR boycott (I would have been 8), and the Rainbow Warrior bombing the following year which - given we lived in St George's Bay road- was literally at the bottom of the street

The comp looks good, thanks for posting about it. I’ve some ticket 45’s so must dig them out – I think Mr Music is on one of them …
Like a goose I left a copy of the Collision LP behind at a Melbourne record fair a few years ago because I already had a copy in my hands – all the altruism versus hoarding emotions! Haven’t seen one since. Another artist who’s really dried up over here in recent years is Dalvinius – there were 45s and copies of that Voodoo Lady 12 popping up quite often for a while, then pffff, all gone..
And a question for Alan, should he revisit the post, isn’t the Johnny Rocco Band an Oz outfit? Their album had three different covers. I found a corner cut out copy (prism version) in Minneapolis of all places a few years ago, and guess its hoarded as I’ve also the version with the light golden logo cover. An old favourite. As Perter notes, a similar Australian comp from last year included Dalvinius, so there are certainly some musical swings and roundabouts.

Noticed this was reissued recently, and its another case where the CD version comes with a bunch of bonus tracks that are not available on the LP – oh the quandary
"Digitally remastered and expanded edition. Originally released by Trojan Records early in 1969, Dancing Down Orange Street is today widely regarded as one of the finest and most sought after albums from the classic ‘boss reggae’ era. The LP, showcasing a dozen of the most popular late rock steady and early reggae productions of leading Jamaican producer, Sonia Pottinger, is presented here in it’s entirety for the first time on CD, with the original selection bolstered by a further 13 bonus tracks from the period. Included are numerous Jamaican hits performed by many of Jamaica’s finest vocal talent from the era, with many making their long overdue CD debut."
And a two hour mix (DL available) of Arthur Russell by Nick the Record:

Fittingly perhaps the Washington Post also has some good coverage:

Saddened to hear of Charles Bradley's passing. A mini tribute of sorts below, noting the many hardships he faced and great happiness he had in performing for, and connecting with, others.

Over in Melbourne Lemi Ghariiokwu, who did many album covers for Fela and others, has been artist in residence at Northside records for the week. There have been 15 prints for sale, at a reasonable $100 a pop .... a good music world initiative, pics of the prints at the links below
