We've been polling candidates over at The Wellingtonista for Wellington, obviously, and WCC Watch has done some good work too, like how in shocking news, privileged middle age white men are acting like privileged old white men.

Hard News: The shaky ground of…, in reply to
And in the '80s when my dad worked for Telecom, he was given a psychometric test to do. He thought it was bunk so he got me to do it (I was about 13). The testing people could tell something was up but couldn't pick that the answers were those of a teenage girl.
that was the plotline of a Simpsons episode after Homer wore a pink shirt to work and had to do a test and got Bart to fill it in. He ended being sent to a mental hospital with Michael Jackson...

And believe it or not, not every misog-troll is some techno-wizard. They’re sad little gits who shit on uppity women because they can, because they’re never had to face any cost or consequences.
I got a super not nice comment on my website not too long ago, in response to a post I'd written about getting date-raped, in which the lovely commentator took it upon himself (I'm assuming) to tell me that clearly I'd enjoyed it and it was going to happen again. The comment came from a vodafone IP address, and so I asked Vodafone on Twitter about, and they were amazing. They called me up straight away to talk about it, sent the guy a letter telling him he'd violated their terms of service, and gave me more information about making a police complaint if I wanted to. I only wish that I could have seen the face of the guy when he got the letter, when he saw that actions have consequences. I am really grateful for how great Vodafone was in dealing with it.

PS there are real race and gender problems out there. This is just reaching – with some very short stubby limbs.
Yeah! So stop complaining about people complaining on the internet, and get out and do something about it?
When does this become Inception?

Hard News: Kitchen Hacks, in reply to
I always wondered why it was called marinara but there was no fish in it. Thanks!

Oh, and my other hack is to turn broccoli into pesto, by blanching it, then blending it with lemon rinds and almonds and olive oil. I find it much more palatable in really small pieces and will eat a lot of it this way.

Make your own limoncello! Peel about a dozen lemons, scrape the pith off (and then juice them and freeze the juice for another time. Pour over a bottle of cheap vodka, let sit for two weeks. Boil around four cups of water and three cups sugar until the sugar dissolves, then add it to the mix. Strain out the rinds and freeze them - they are AMAZING in baking or pasta. Now you have about 1.6 litres of deliciousness you can put in smaller bottles and give away. People will love you. And oh how good those rinds are.

Hard News: A Golden Age for the Arts?, in reply to
Dance marathons and the like were huge in the 20s and 30s, and they’re not that different to modern game/talent shows.
I had never thought about that, but you're totally right. Thank you!

If I was in court at the trial of someone who allegedly murdered a member of my family, you know what I would be focused on? The verdict. Not what anyone was wearing.

I looked at all those pretty pastel pills and thought they were crying out to be arranged in an hombre order and instagramed.
