The Dunedin Fringe Festival was finishing up. I managed to see two plays this weekend – Velcro City and Cherie Jacobson: the Diary of a Young Cynic. The highlight of the festival as a whole for me was a one-person play called The Bookbinder, which made a great use of light and shadow and is touring the country later this year. It’s really worth seeing.
On Saturday afternoon I strolled through the Botanic Gardens, enjoying the autumn colours and the crunch of leaves underfoot. I returned there again on Sunday (I live nearby) and came across a brass band playing in the bandstand. It all felt very Edwardian. This is my favourite time of year, just before the weather turns really cold and the first frosts arrive.

I sometimes listen to guided relaxation podcasts and they seem to send me off tickety-boo. But on more than one occasion I've woken in the middle of the night to untangle myself from the lead for my earbuds.

However, they do need sufficient admissible evidence of offending before they lay changes. Depending on the charge, the type of evidence needed to meet the standard will differ. If they have video of someone having sex with someone who is obviously a child, then I would be very surprised if they did not lay charges, even if the child refuses to make a statement, or is unknown.
But surely there's enough evidence available to seek a search warrant against the parties invovled - seizing their cellphones, computers and other devices for analysis and building a case against them.

I had a look at Google Trends - GCSB is certainly gaining as a search term on Google, and is slightly ahead of the April peak for the search term "Marriage equality", but is quite far behind the search term "Gay marriage". It doesn't appear to be the political story of the year, but interest is growing.

I really enjoyed having my iPad in hand following Twitter while watching the events unfold on Parliament TV. It's a really great way of fostering political engagement - people not only speaking up while watching on from the peanut gallery, but engaging in conversation. And the character limit prevents screeds of diatribes from being posted.

I'm quite lucky to have this just behind my back fence. This is my first summer in this house. The birdsong an the stream make it quite tranquil in my backyard.
