by what right do you swipe copies of the magazine to "edit" out an advertisement you object to?
Yes, that right is reserved by AUSA, who about 10 years ago glued shut the first two pages of Craccum to prevent students from seeing an ad by Lion Breweries for an event in competition with the DB sponsored Orientation festival ...

Mother Goose, yes?
Quite an amazing video considering it was NuZiland in the 70s. There'd be a few 80s bands who would have killed for that video budget. And who new Billy Connolly was a member of Mother Goose? Was that how he met Pammy?
As someone says in the comments, how she didn't win an Oscar, I'll never know.
But oh my, that Ann-Margaret is hot.

Earth Hour was fun
Call me a cynic, but did anyone measure the carbon footprint of the Earth Hour promotion effort? All I saw was specially printed stickers, specially printed t-shirts, and celebrities who may or may not have walked to Christchurch to promote the event. Not being a Christchurch resident I don't know how many extra pages were printed by sponsors The Press to also promote the event.
And didn't they nail the fallacy of 'Green People' last night on Boston Legal? (Sorry, searched Utube for a clip without success)

the ordeal Debbie Gerbich went through
Wow! That's quite an interesting link you provided David. Not only the story, but the comment at the end:
James said...
This reminds me of my ex-girlfriend. A few years ago mosques in Auckland were attacked with graffiti of swastikas and racist messages. My ex got the culprits to admit to it over the internet and gave the police the logs. The two offenders were sent to jail for several months. The Herald found out who she was and contacted her. They told her that they were going to do a story on her (thereby making her known to an angry neo-Nazi community and severely endangering her.) The only way she could stop them doing this story was to comply with them completely and provide whatever information they desired. This was a particularly vicious form of blackmail, as the Herald knew very well what the stakes were.
I wonder who gave the reporter her name? Someone from the Police? The Courts?

I don't know why this didn't make bigger news.
It suits the media (and the Republicans) to keep this 'race' 'alive'.
She said it was obvious to everyone there what was going on and she thought Clinton had made many enemies from inside the democratic party that day.
Clinton is betting the farm on this race. The ends will justify the means. If she wins in August it will not matter (unless she goes on to lose in November, in which case it will be the ObamaDems fault). If she bows out now she knows she will never get this chance (to be President) again.
I'm sure Hitler (there - I said it!) believed in his own ambition too.

Here's the meta-question for the day: What rational thought process would lead you to supply goods or services to a political campaign? And it's not just America either...
damn straight (no pun intended) - the Hero Festival in Auckland ran many years with accumulating debt and yet still people provided services (even those who were still unpaid from the year[s] before).

There was a moment in an Amtrak dining car when I felt on the point of it, but then the food arrived.
On behalf of all men everywhere -- I salute you.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether the separation of Telecom Networks might resolve the stand-off over peering?
Does anyone have any clue why I can't send attachments? It's been this way for years, even when I switched to Orcon. If I switch 100% to Orcon (ie ditch Telecom's homeline) and take their $100 package will that solve the problem? The nice man on the phone (who rang me to get me to switch) seemed to infer that maybe Telecom were limiting my access and that was why I couldn't send attachments.
or is it just my Intel Mac? I can't seem to find any settings to change to allow attachments. Should I ring 0800GEEK or are they all PC users?</back to topic>
Here's a stock tip for y'all: DON'T BUY ANYTHING RIGHT NOW - NO SHARES NO GOLD NO PROPERTY NO EUROS - WE'RE ALL GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET - CASH IS KING/QUEEN - SPEND WHAT YOU'VE GOT AND ENJOY IT - PUT ALL YOUR SPARE MONEY INTO PAYING OFF YOUR MORTGAGE - MY PORTFOLIO IS F@#KED!

However, if the power company has a meltdown - like it did in Auckland several years ago - the cabinet has a generator input - so Telecom's contractors can plug a gen-set into the cabinet to recharge the batteries and keep it all going.
Well they'd better stand there and guard the generator if they do. If we have another power 'outage' like that last fiasco then I'll be the first one to go and 'borrow' any small generator left on the roadside to ensure people's broadband service continues ... I think there will be other priorities.

Sheesh, your baby is so ugly you could win prizes at the A&P Show
"Our daughter can quietly amuse herself for hours watching her baby-mobile," claims a member of our Plunket group. "We're actually getting too much sleep now that the baby's arrived," says another....
What a bunch of f**king show-offs. Never once has our son been amused by his baby-mobile for so much as a nanosecond. Over the last four months he has slept a maximum of five hours a night, and seldom longer than an hour in a row.
That's because you're trying the modern PC approach to parenting. You've got to kick it old school and give the bub a tablespoon of cough medicine everytime you want them to sleep, or just get some 'me' time for yourself. And not the diluted childrens syrup either, but some of that 40 Proof stuff you use yourself.
That's what my parents did, and I turned out alright.
It's also why those show off parents are getting so much sleep. Their babies are staring at mobiles for hours because their brains are fried.
