This whole thing plays into Dotcom's image and how it will play against his presumed target base though huh. "We just wanted to throw you all a giant party but The Man shut us down"...
-
Sure Chris, but even the non-fundraising ones (like the Greens picnic)? Trying to understand what triggers the warning for "treating"

WAY TO KILL THE PARTY EDGELER. ;)
Rich's point is interesting though - aren't there fundraisery party things from, erm, parties quite regularly? Is it a question of focus/intent/marketing what?
-
Craig, simple coincidence I'm sure :/
The lose-lose you mention Rob is what pisses me off the most - act with complete disrepute then claim horror that the mayor has bought disrepute to the Council...

Hard News: We need to talk about Len, in reply to
If anything will save @mayorlenbrown, it’ll be his opponents behaving like malignant guttersnipe
Who would have thought a Council Meeting censuring a mayor for affairs and failures of disclosure would have left said-Mayor far from the least-respected member of that body?
The guttersnipe (primarily the usual Auckland CR suspects and the Herald) have been so OTT and shotgun in their condemnation that the Mayor has escaped answering the handful of relevant questions - primarily why did the Hilton give him all personal stays gratis, SkyCity almost half, why he thought disclosure wasn't necessary, and what involvement he's had with any Council business affecting them? All the upgrade/text message/where-his-car-went crap is insignificant distraction that has allowed him to avoid those questions...

I've been wondering who did that Ring Ring re-edit for aaaaages - Greg Wilson drops it a lot. Just realised Greenwood did that amazing Buffalo Stance edit too.
THANKYOU -
A lot of people are calling for male* violence and abuse of power as a response to rape huh. Rape of course being a crime of male*** violence and abuse of power...
* It's always the "fathers, uncles and brothers" who will teach a lesson?

What are the odds the “fourth member of the group who refused to cooperate with police” is the officer’s son? I see that individual is now assisting with enquiries…
Also, this whole thing feels like it could end even worse than it's started. The media and public blowtorch that has gone on feels like it could have some ugly outcomes of its own. Please note I don't necessarily believe it should have been avoided (if only for the action it seems to have stirred the police into) but these things just give me a sense of foreboding...

All this "all the facts on the table" stuff baffles me. Do we honestly believe we have all the private facts of anyone we elect, or deserve/need them? Brown is no different a person now than he was on election night, and there will be many other facets to his private life that (thank fuck) we aren't privy too. I get all the hypocrisy/judgement/influence angles but there is no significant element of that here.
As for the ongoing story around the Palino/Slater camps role in this*, it's a bit of a poisoned chalice for Brown. His immediate fronting and fessing up struck me as smart PR - it would have been cauterised and over in a matter of days. Now it's being continuously dragged out, even if it is at the expense of his "opponents"
* Which I'm only following second hand, as the first Herald cover on this topic has finally made me swear off reading them ever again. Any link I follow which happens to be the Herald I close immediately. Not giving them my advertising eyeballs thanks very much...

And I'm going to be listening to those Ultrasonic tunes all weekend now - that gig late 90s at Unitec (?) is an awfully vague memory of good times...
