Just wondering - Do Chch film Society members, if they venture North or South, get the same discounts as 'home' FS members for the respective festivals? And any thought of FS members in other centres providing accommodation for such film refugees?

OTOH, at least someone is collecting Gregorian cghants and early church music. If NZ was onlty going to collect stuff strictly relevant to their communities, we would all be poorer for it. At least some medieval monasteries thought that copying collecting non-church classical material was worth it for its own sake. There is a need for seeming irrevelancy - look at all the then thought irrevelant Maori letters and other documents were saved in the the early 1920s, which later emerged with the Waitangi Tribunal investigations

And spare a thought for one of my friends, a keen cyclist. His bike is still trapped behind the Cordon....Expecting to get it back god knows when (if it hasnt been looted by contractors or a friendly CD officer...

Which is where the Dutch system comes in - Those bikes in Amsterdam are certainly not state of the art, but they are sturdy and practical in being able carry loads (be it children or shopping), and of course the Dutch don't feel the need to dress in lycra otr in anything special while riding (changing in and out of work clothes is one of the discouraging things about cycling to work)
