  • Hard News: The Greens' pretty good new…,

I strongly believe that if cannabis is to be allowed for personal use there must be some form of regulation and taxation - i.e. it should be legalised and controlled

Part of me also thinks this is a quarter acre dream policy - we're not all gardeners... nor want to be (same goes with brewing)

  • Speaker: The light train to Roskill,

If the Transport Blog map (http://transportblog.co.nz/2016/11/01/light-rail-by-election-stoush/) is indication of where light rail could travel, Mt Roskill could be the beginnings of a line to the airport - which then can continue to south auckland and around to the east

  • Hard News: Friday Music: After the…, in reply to Sacha,

those sorts of hubs or entertainment quarters (call em what ya want) sort of already exist... bars and clubs catering to localised social scenes - its where you find the hip hop, R&B, rock, metal crowds

the problem Auckland may face is one that effects original indie music more than anything else, a very small scene and one that is borderline financially viable for a venue - ie a struggling market to cater to right now and part of a larger problem local music faces (getting peoples attention) - K Road is the best option for continuation of that and a for bunch of other creative and artistic communities, due to the critical mass of collective communities overlapping. If they are forced by gentrification to shift they will probably splinter

  • Polity: Behavioural economics and Hekia Parata, in reply to Adam H,

Repeat after me: “economics is a social science”.

    this... so much this

and as a social science it is but one... yet it is the only one politicians seem to care about, more fool them... and poor us

  • Polity: Behavioural economics and Hekia Parata, in reply to Rob Stowell,

possibly because its neither behavioral, economics nor does it make much sense

I worry when people with power act as if the real world is a academic exercise with points for effort... damn the consequences PR will tidy that stuff up

  • Hard News: Waterview: The giant up the road,

I'm fascinated and mortified by this huge homage to cars & petrol that I've watched rise from my bus seat - the planning and details that project managers have done to ensure everything has gone smoothly and to plan is most impressive and makes my head hurt

For photos/flybys and the like I've been following https://www.facebook.com/AliceTBM there's some great pictures there

  • Hard News: Obscuring the News, in reply to Northshoreguynz,

I use a variety of things as aggregator - twitter and Facebook are fast becoming the less used as I follow and friend things I relate to and like, thus end up in a feedback loop of the sorts of things you'd expect... which means I miss out on balance... have been using reddit (r/newzealand/) as my aggregator for a bit over a year cause it gives me news, entertainment, silliness and most importantly access to people who don't agree with me all... so discussion is vastly more interesting and enlightening
