Yeah, you change the ratio, but the rule is about the selection for next election, and it's likely Labour will do better. So yes there will be a relative decrease, but absolute numbers of men need not change.

I didn't see the TV3 story last night that broke this, so correct me if I'm wrong in what I'm about to say.
When I read this Herald story, it seems to me that one interpretation is that there was a continuing police investigation, and that TV3 just leaped in, perhaps ruining it. Is that completely misreading it?
"We continue to look for evidence that will assist us in determining whether there has been any criminal offending and then once we've got this evidence we can make a determination on what our next move is.''
Mr Scott said the Roast Busters facebook page had been left open for "operational and tactical reasons''.
"Whilst we acknowledge it was upsetting for the victims, it was being monitored for information or evidence that would assist our investigation.''
Mr Scott that said to date, none of the girls contacted by police had given a formal statement or made a formal complaint.
He said police needed to be careful not to re-victimise the girls by pressuring them into making a statement.
"We continue to talk with girls involved in the group. The difficulty is that we don't want to re-victimise the girls, some of them don't wish to engage with us and we can't push them to talk to the police.''
He said there were several reasons why the girls may not want to make formal statements.
"They're fearful of the process, they're worried about their peer group, they're traumatised by what's happened to them and it affects them talking.''

Radio is a niche ,medium and unlikely to grow in future. This is the right approach for public media in the youth market. Fixating on broadcast radio on actual radio waves is a mistake.
On another note, while many of my contempories might be migrants, I'm a goddam autochthon in that case. 1989, email, telnet and Usenet.

The thing about pursuing private vengeance is that even if it satisfies the victim and puts the offender on the right path in life (and it probably doesn't), it misses two important functions of public justice:
- informing the wider public that this kind of thing happens and is a social problem
- having a deterrent effect on potential offenders who hear about it.Just dealing with things quietly, however well it works out, can't send any message beyond a circle of acquaintances.

This is exactly what I expect public broadcasting to be in the 21st century. Brilliant.

Well, you could actually quite adequately learn elementary calculus from a 50 year old text book, you know.
At the risk of a massive derail, Calculus Made Easy has been a top seller since 1910. And it really is very good.

t what kind of a country are we coming to if we are not prepared to act without thinking on the accusations of a small band of fevered hysterics.
Well-played, sir.

Offering someone $100k for something and paying them $100k are two quite different things.
