  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

Does he really print out every email, or have his PA do so for him?
Or perhaps Paul Henry's lawyer brought that stack in as a bargaining tool. Not that I'm implying he was pushed rather than choosing to jump.

No mention of what may be a complaints pile twice that high...

My guess is that it's a tool being used to engineer Henry's eventual return, and/or designed to keep the rightwingers/anti-PC crowd believing that those who decry Paul Henry's odious antics as being nasty humourless party poopers.

I checked in to the show for a short while this morning, and the 20cm high pile was strategically placed on the set's 'coffee table' in front of Pippa. She mooned over them, and mourned the loss of her co-host - and was probably given a bonus for doing so.

Here's some insight into Rick Ellis:

    http://www.3news.co.nz/TVNZ-Chief-Executives-comments-obscene/tabid/421/articleID/27612/Default.aspx

Rick Ellis told the Maori affairs select committee that crime show ‘Police 10-7’ and prison show ‘Lockdown’ are examples of TVNZ's commitment to Maori.

    Nice, eh.

TVNZ is a political organisation. It is the propaganda arm of the National Party.

Have any of you guys watched the excellent BBC doco called "Century of the Self"? It's available online for free viewing. It's a four hour doco broken down into four one hour parts, and primarily covers the influence of Freud's nephew Edward Bernay's, and his daughter Anna, on the 20th Century. And that influence was HUGE. And it still is today.

Here's an 8 minute snippet from part one:

I personally think this documentary should be shown in all high schools, followed by robust student discussion. To me, this knowledge is as important as reading, writing, an 'rithmatic.

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

    Sadness... :(

These are some comments from Paul Henry's fans, at his TVNZ affiliated Facebook page:

"October the 29th is international run down a rag head day all Indians killed or maimed will be eligible for points 1 point per male 2 points for females and 3 points for kids.”

"Lets go beat up indian students"

    "Sheila Dikshit for anal whore."

In chasing ratings and the advertising dollar they have bought into, and nurtured, the culture of hate. Hate is the new black, it seems. Bigotry, the hot new fashion accessory. Wear it anywhere. "Express Yourself" :(

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

How is "fat slug" anything other than insulting?

Puckish? Give me a break! It's no more puckish and no less insulting than me saying something like "Laws just talks shit all the time because he has a mouth that looks like puckered arsehole". Which, funnily enough, is what I actually think.

I'm not apologising for it either - I said it just like Cheryl West would, so it's Kiwi as.

  • Busytown: Front, man,

    Thanks, simon g.

I now know that he's not just playing at not understanding what he did wrong, but that he genuinely has no freaking clue. Interesting.

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

Possibly true, though it seems to be me that in general Indians take insults very seriously and they are quite protective of people in seniority, so laughing at a chief minster's name could come close to being a national insult in itself.

My own interpretation was that he insulted all Indians by implying that they were shit. Y'know, like shit on your shoe. Dikshit, shit - so appropriate because she's Indian.

Oh! He's resigned, eh. That's a good tactic, well managed with the "genuinely" and "inadvertently" and stuff. I see a new anti-PC hero in our midst. Now I'm thinking that he will be back, just not on Monday week.

Unless economic pressure has been wielded by India in trade talks, maybe?.

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

...he had around 30,000 friends. It was up to 50,000 after a couple of days and is now hitting 65,000.

That's why I'm not laying any bets that he'll be sacked. The number of people who believe their own right to be entertained trumps all other's rights - and all other rights - is astonishing. But I suppose I shouldn't blame them: they've been engineered that way. (*sigh* Just finished watching part 4 of The Beebs' excellent "Century of the Self" documentary, which certainly goes toward explaining some - if not most - of the social engineering of the 20th Century. Fascinating stuff).

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

    Thanks for the reply, Craig.

I guess my Google Fu isn't really up to scratch, because it took me too long to find too little about that particular portfolio and what it's mandate is. It seems to me that the portfolio is a fairly redundant one, and should merge with the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.

As for Paul Henry, it's looking more and more possible that he will be sacked. I won't lay money on any bets just yet though... I'll just keep my fingers crossed that some modicum of moral courage will be found at TVNZ.

Of course, this all may be a catalyst for TVNZ finally being sold - maybe to the likes of Murdoch - and Paul will be back with his brand of smug nasty a la Fox News and be deemed a persecuted hero by the redneck crowd (a group that appears to be much larger and much uglier than I had previously thought).

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

Could someone please explain to me why we have a Broadcasting Minister? What is his job, exactly? Because as far as I can see, both the man and the office are as useless as tits on a bull.
