Not now we know that whole thing about the archiving national library.

Hope you weren't under the impression that it wasn't getting archived before. There's a fair bit up on archive.org for a start. The first rule of the internet is that you can't count anything being deleted from the internet.

Thanks for reminding me to get it off itunes.

Instead of paying Apple for it, why not get it here: http://music.amandapalmer.net/album/amanda-palmer-goes-down-under
$.69 USD plus whatever you feel like paying. For the entire album.

However, can anyone explain the ghosting thing? From both people in Chch, people in Wellington and Twitter, I’ve been receiving texts multiple times. Or is it unrelated and just my phone slowly dying?

I’m guessing here: I think what is going on is that the acknowledgement messages from your phone when it receives the txt are not getting back to the system so it keeps resending the txt on the assumption that it didn’t get through the first time.

So if you are near to a tower you use less energy than if you are far from one? Weird never thought it would work that way.

That's how the airlines are justifying microcells in planes: if the phones can connect to a station in the plane then they can transmit at low enough power to not risk interference with the nav equipment.

Folks, it’s rather important you both start telling the same (and accurate) story. It really really matters.

I expect that few people in Christchurch are getting info from TV so it's probably more important that RNZ (and Twitter etc) is accurate, but it would be good if they could get on the same page.

I'd be inclined to believe RNZ over TV3.

TV3 still saying that the hospital has been evacuated.

I also think that it's a lot easier to paint Assange than Manning as a villain, yet they're managing to detain and torture Manning for exposing war crimes without fear of tarnishing their reputation at home or abroad.

Is it easier to paint Assange than Manning as a villain? It seems to me that the case against Manning is a lot more obvious than the case against Assange. One of the problems with going after Assange is that he is merely the publisher - he didn't actually steal or leak the material. That's not the case with Manning. And Manning is US citizen.

Surely it would make more sense for the women to test themselves for STDs? If that’s what they’re trying to find out, whether they were infected.

Aside from AIDS point that Giovanni made, another possibility is that they have been tested and tested positive.

A comparative google trends search for wikileaks and cryptome returns the result ‘cryptome does not have enough search volume for ranking’.

It didn't say that when I tried it. I'm not sure what that comparison proves anyhow; I don't think anyone is arguing that Cryptome is better know than Wikileaks. The fact that it is searched for far less than something else still doesn't mean that it isn't known of at all.

I did get that message for Wikileaks when I compared it to Google. Based on that would you argue that no one has heard of Wikileaks?
