Aw, I wanted that to be a lot more funny than it was. I think I smirked about twice.

Jesus Christ. I can get a PO BOY at the BDO? What sort of civilised madness is this?

Aaaaaaahhhhhh he and the Expressions were so awesome aaaaaahhhhh! Thank you so much for the recommendation. I brought three people with me and they all loved it. (We had some tiny-child-related issues at home which meant we couldn't have a drink earlier, though. Sorry to have missed you.)

Also, as a "lady" in the audience, I felt greatly appreciated. :)

Belatedly: I read that Dr Hook piece a few months back and was actually crying with laughter. It's so, so good.

I... OK. That really doesn't have anything to do with "cissexual assumptions". It's been used for a while as a shorthand for the way in which pop culture develops these schisms: young girls tend to "get" the great things about pop music while older guys tend not to. (I first heard it used in reference to Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, actually.) I was just playing on Russell's comment about the teenage girls' tweets. And now I have thoroughly ruined the reference by over-explaining it, I will end this post. :)

  • Hard News: Public Address Word of the…, in reply to Russell Brown,

Agreed. It's really overwrought and suffers from a hook paucity where it counts. The kicky little bits of the verses promise so much more than the chorus eventually delivers.

“F.U.” is a stand-out track, which The Corner accurately described as having a “Jim Steinman-goes-dubstep showtunes vibe”. Quality.

I really wish I liked that more, because it has many Elements of Awesomeness. I just wound up too exhausted by how hard it's trying. :)

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Some Year,

Craig I listened to the Janelle Monae album for the first time properly in the car last night. That woman has so many ideas I don't know how they all fit in one person. She is amazing.

    Read the teenage girls’ tweets

That doesn’t sound like something I’d be too keen on truth be told ;)

If you can tear yourself away from your lattes

PSA: I’ve actually found it’s pretty easy to write a protest letter and drink a latte at the same time.

I think we might be in charge of keeping the penises moral, or something.
