As for It's Academic - being a nerd that I was/am, I tuned in and Lockwood Smith couldn't pronounce to save himself. He'd ask a question and you wouldn't understand what he was talking about until the answer came out "that's not how you say it!".
I can attest to this being absolutely true, the man had a penchant for the mongoloid mouth mumbles. I was on the Waitakere college team and we lost our regional final due to a lockwoodism pronouncing krait [krahyt] as crite this led to us giving an incorrect answer and losing the game by half the penalty points he took away. A krait is a venomous snake found in asia btw.
Strange, the things we remember.

NZ yoof tv in the seventies and early eighties was classic, what now was legendary with Simon Barnett et al. Nice one stu etc. Under the Mountain was a great adaptation of Gee's original Children of the Dog Star was cool too, auditioned for the role of Bevis, sadly unsucessful hehe. Another old show starred a mates wife I think it was called the smugglers or something close to that. We used to make wicked cool wildlife doco's too (NZ that is).

The herald site was quite good for awhile but since the linkup with finda search4 etc it has become interminably slow to load with some pages taking minutes, mind you the advertising works straight away.

You know your problem beth heke? you're just too lippy!

Wow, that ad is a lot different than I remember. I'm certain the current management at restaurant brands wouldn't approve ads that had kids like that in them.

"Reece, I'll just quote you again "I had many years experience in hospo ... and saw lots of really dumb stuff mostly perpetrated by teenagers". So again, I say that your proposal to raise the drinking age for off-licenses will not solve the problem you brought up of roudy teenagers in on-licenses."
Not wanting to be pedantic but I didn't refer specifically to on licences when mentioning the dumb stuff etc, you just assumed. (are the italics and bold type really necessary?) it was exclusively off licence behaviour having worked in both sides of the retail of liquor. For example Young boys from Auckland Grammar making average quality fake id's that state their dob making them 21 while their photo is in school uniform. People trying to shoplift in the most blatant ways.
But no hard feelings, we cant all be one hundred percent factually correct all of the time, just look at the herald. -
I can hear your wringing hands all the way from here.

So now we're legislating against natural selection?

"Annnd... they will still be able to drink in bars under that system, so that wouldn't solve the problem."
Missed the point hamish, The idea is that host responsibility precludes excess drinking to intoxication and thereby less bad effects on an unsuspecting joe (or jolene) public. This assumes that licensees actually are interested in host responsibility, which is a whole other discussion.
Also regarding the internet speed thing I'm with xtra so if I am getting priority at the exchange I shudder to think whats going down for everyone else. -
I'll be dead so I really don't give a toss.
