Sounds to me as if you have never done a real budget Christopher
There is a big difference between $12.5 and $15 Billion deficient
And one of the ways to deal to the difference is by trimming non-essentials
It is no fun but it has to be done -
Not a lot of culture this year but best film was "Boy"
Funniest/strangest TV show was something seen in Italy that seemed to be about the sexiest Grandmother, unbelievable
And if you think free to air TV in NZ is crap (and that is a fair call in my opinion) wait to see what the rest of the world (minus the UK and the USA) watches -
I get the distinct feeling that you RB and the rest of us at PA would love to see a far right party
Just for the fun we could have blowing it out of the water
Talk about fish in a barrel
I think (or rather I hope) its popular support would be hardly above the margin of error
But then there is support for those old troppers Jim A and dear old Winston so who knows -

“Long-term benefit dependency for the able-bodied is very destructive at every level: it destroys initiative and drive, cripples the future opportunities of children, encourages family breakdown, fuels intergenerational dependency and the growth of the underclass, and is an enormous cost burden on society that the country cannot afford.”
I don't know about most of the posters here but that is a no brainer to me
Almost most of the people I know who are on a benefit would rather not be except for a rather small number who have made a life style choice
I think the statistics prove that is quite small number of citizens
I also don't think having a great brood of kids while on the benefit is a good idea for either the children or society
But penalizing the mothers or the children is the wrong thing to do, just stupid, again a no brainer -
I have to say the pollies (both sides ) have handled this well
Although as I typed I just heard Jimmbo Anderton demanding a no risk world
So apart from him and he is always a special case they have done well
Well apart from the Labour party accidentally using it as a fund raising opportunity and I am sure that was a genuine mistake over on Red Alert
But it shows how careful you have to be in these cases -

I hear what you are saying Hilary but notice you did not extend this cynicism to the left wing pollies ( or potential pollies in Andrew Little's case)
who are turning up in some numbers
And there is nothing wrong with that when you think of Labour's true roots
I have people who are members of my wider family involved in this thing so it is personal
Speaking of family are you related to Jean Stace? -

Sometimes Sofie and Hillary somethings should remain unsaid especially snarky things
I note Mr Goff has been on site (as he should)
Imagine the uproar if the PM continue as if there was nothing he might do that would change the situation -
Coffee is acidic 3-5 ph but is high in very available nitrogen
Apparently if it was sold a fertilizer it would be 2-33-1Anyway I mix it with lime (1 part lime to 2 of coffee) for ordinary use, composting etc
Straight it is good for alkaline loving plants and as snail/slug defense wall -
Something like this, that shows the dangers of mining, is more likely to have an effect on future mines than anything the Greens can wheel out
It is a dangerous business
