I thought Roger was wonderful theatre just a week too late for Halloween though.
The concrete dragon at Auckland zo is easily the most popular attraction there. Oops hope no-one for Act is reading this...
The zoo story reminds me of another story I came across regarding an orchestra and why we should sack most of them cause they just sit around waiting for their part in the music.

This is the table I'm using and it already includes advance votes of 235.000 (incl 25,000 specials)
Does anyone know if there are more specials votes to be counted - or are we getting faster at the post election tally?

I must admit I had to look up Ferengi but exactly right for Act
the manners and countenance of a Ferengi trader
With Rodney, Roger and even Prebble keen to put distance between themselves and the National Party they are making is easier for Key to outflank them.
Roger did National a favour by being so OTT on TV3 and from what I heard on National Radio doesn't seem to make any more sense 2 days later.
The best you can say about Sir Roger is that the cartoonists will have an easier character now that Winston has gone.
I heard some of Prebble on radio as well and he seems to have glossed over the fact that Act got the same number of seats as the Maori Party.
The best result for all of us is a scenario where the Maori Party is included even if that makes it more likely National will get a second term in 2011.
The worst thing about National's win is all that dead wood in their top 10. Lets hope Key can sidestep the two Smiths, Williamson aat the very least.

PS: Why do I have to log in everytime I want to make a reply? Is it - sigh - just another flaw in this paticular machine?
Probably a browser setting not saving cookies. Ask a tech friend about your settings if that doesn't make sense.

Hi David,
Really enjoyed the book.
There is something quite delicious about having an actual book in ones hand. I was delighted with my copy which arrived very promptly.
A mark of great writing is that even though I have read many of the stories online they were all still funny the second time around.
In fact I'm going to insist on reading some of them to the 7 year old who has a sense of humour way beyond her years.
My favourite story is the "Joys of Unclehood" where delighful Cuba aged 6 gets to have a little fun on various members of the family.
I have a younger sister who has recently become a parent and all of our siblings are quite relieved and very keen to invite her little boy out for fun when he gets older.
There is something magical about the universe of parenthood when seen from the sideview of Unclehood. Go Cuba.
For the writing I was thinking we could say this book is what happens when James McNeish meets Owen Marshall and gets smashed on raspberry cordial at Millers Flat.
Maybe not :)
PS. I too have been experimenting with LaTex and WordPress.

I voted at Kowhai Intermediate School in Kingsland before 10am. We were there for swimming so great to be able to vote as well saved a bit of Carbon.
The voting process appeared to be well organised. Found out later that the PM had also voted there as it is her local school and we are in the Mt Albert electorate. We must have missed her by a few minutes as we got there at 9.
I just did a quick look up of 1996 election results when Labour won 28.2% of the vote but the Alliance and NZ First both did remarkably well that election. First election under MMP
My thoughts are that this election might be closer to those 1996 scenarios than anything else.

Lessig has a video of an earlier presentation over here
Would be interested to know if the Auckland presentation had been updated or improved over the earlier one.

Thanks to Ian for this a few pages back
"Who is John Key? He has been asked and at his age he at least should know. I don't think he has a deeply held philosophy which means his answers seem to be based on differing needs for different audiences. I think Helen has a long held philosophy which allows her to be clear on answers to most questions as she lines it up with her philosophy."
I think the uber pragmatism is entirely true. Perhaps the best thing we can hope for is that Key will reveal himself a bit more after the election.
He did offer hints that some of the deadwood might not be so lucky and it may be that National Party find him diffilcut to read as well.
@Duncan
You are right to the extent that 'success has many fathers / mothers' and politicians will always claim more than they should but Cullen and Labour have done better than average in my opinion.
