I saw that and had to look up SDNY. I'd say someone is going down, just a question of who wriggles free.

if you think these tiles provide a challenge to cycles that is nothing compared to small hard wheeled modes of transport like scooters and skateboards
.. or powered wheelchairs. Prioritising the needs of a small subgroup of disabled pedestrians has also had a bad effect on the overall design of Auckland's shared spaces.

apparently there are troubles meeting the code requirements for mobility-impaired (blind / low-vision) people with any other product that has lessof the same issues - and that is available/approved in NZ
Yet other nations somehow manage. I've seen the individual plastic studs up close, but I have no idea how well they perform or how slippery they are compared with the ceramic ones. The stainless steel studs specced for the Britomart project are a disaster in so many ways, not least the cost.

'Directly affected' was also a phrase trotted out by the silly hat wearers opposing the Westmere/West Lynn project.
Planning is meant to balance the interests of all people current and future who are passing through or staying in a place. Allowing just the owners of adjacent properties a say is ridiculous and archaic.

Simon Wilson on the ins and outs of undergrounding.
[Vector CEO Simon Mackenzie] says undergrounding costs from four to 10 times as much as running the cables above ground. Vector's rough estimate is that to put all remaining cables underground, just within the urban limits, never mind about the west coast, Riverhead and all the other exposed rural areas, would cost about $3 billion.
"That's equal to the entire value of our current asset," says Mackenzie.
A question for Auckland, right there. What does this cost-averse city want to pay for a secure power supply?

Most of Wellington has overhead lines and they don't blow over in storms?
Welli's most likely trees would have already fallen down in your normal breezes.

Emergency Management (as it’s now called) is turning around towards the community and seeking to engage with the community
Yes, Dragecevich started that in the old Waitakere City Council. The idea is to strengthen connections within local communities before they need to be drawn upon in emergencies. Takes lots of time and effort.
