apparently there are troubles meeting the code requirements for mobility-impaired (blind / low-vision) people with any other product that has lessof the same issues - and that is available/approved in NZ
Yet other nations somehow manage. I've seen the individual plastic studs up close, but I have no idea how well they perform or how slippery they are compared with the ceramic ones. The stainless steel studs specced for the Britomart project are a disaster in so many ways, not least the cost.

[Vector CEO Simon Mackenzie] says undergrounding costs from four to 10 times as much as running the cables above ground. Vector's rough estimate is that to put all remaining cables underground, just within the urban limits, never mind about the west coast, Riverhead and all the other exposed rural areas, would cost about $3 billion.
"That's equal to the entire value of our current asset," says Mackenzie.
A question for Auckland, right there. What does this cost-averse city want to pay for a secure power supply?

Yes, Dragecevich started that in the old Waitakere City Council. The idea is to strengthen connections within local communities before they need to be drawn upon in emergencies. Takes lots of time and effort.
