  • Hard News: Friday Music: F**kYouTube,

There seems to be a lot missing from the various Youtube stories circulating - mainly facts.

As in what rate is being offered and does it differ from that the majors have signed up for... and you know the other important details needed before one can make an informed decision as to if they truly are evil or just misunderstood on this count - as much as I am inclined to rage against the machine by default and side with the indies so far its been a very one sided story.

That 45th sounds like a mint night out, Sunflower is up there on my fave songs ever list

I've been hammering this https://soundcloud.com/factmag/gerry-read-gerrys-live-edits-mix over the week, can't decide if its brilliant or just interesting... whatever, its a nice change from the seamless and sometimes soulless world of the perfect mix our digital age has made so easy for too many

Why wouldn't "terrorists" use modern devices to spread their message and propaganda?

Next the cunning buggers will use it to spy on us
Or impose internet filters to protect us from badies
    oh

One has to hand it to ISIS's solution to their messaging - so much easier and cheaper than trying to keep embedded journalists on message

album of the year for me thus far, can't see it being beat.

I can't get enough of the Robert Palmer cover/rework of Johnny & Mary with that Brian Ferry chap singing... added bonus of a cracking fan-made video featuring Cherry 2000 visuals

    original

dammit it now feels like summer, win!

I'd also like to see the refugee intake kept up and out of this discussion (yes, I'm the first to mention it)

Yep a very different topic, but as the door is ajar - its a subject in which NZ is currently not pulling our weight on, at the least we should be taking the numbers we say we will, plus we've room for a lot more imo

  • Hard News: The Fine Line,

I love the diversity that immigration has brought to NZ yet am concerned about the ongoing immigration policies and political football it is

No worries about us allowing more people in, just wonder what the rational is - as in what is the long term goal of immigration from our political parties, is it purely economic?

At risk of sounding like a knee jerk reactionary, why are we considering taking so many more when we seemingly can't address the growing inequalities and poverty of those already here?

The Auckland problem is a national one - we have to get the regions working again... creating meaningful and long term sustainable employment outside of Auckland and the larger urban centres... for all of us here

Spotify has the bulk of the 200+ albums that have been digitalised, so far, to stream for free - you do have to find them yourself via the search function

iTunes, amplifier.co.nz and other digital retailers have them too - there you do have to purchase

There is no single "buy now" nor single point of entry to find them all in one place as its a huge number of albums from a equally large number of different companies

Just to compile links to where you can buy/listen to each individual album (multiple links per album) is a huge undertaking (hours of work) - its more a heads up these albums are available for the first time digitally and find them where you normally hang musically in the digital world

there's a glorious Pinterest board with all the album covers in Tied To The Tracks put together by the Audioculture crew - http://www.pinterest.com/AudioCultureNZ/tied-to-the-tracks/

Not only are we fortunate to house many a talented musicians here but our artists and graphic designers aren't too shabby either

  • Hard News: Circumstance and coincidence, in reply to Matthew Poole,

given the number of questionable processes around Minister made appointments during Nationals reign perhaps Key didn't want to add another one to the ever growing list?

I would suggest the whole fireworks thing is a diversion - nothing to substantiate that claim but its the sort of thing one could easily forget, and as such the public could and will buy into.... a good line to pout out there.

I am sure there are multiple levels to the various smokescreens over various possible and seemingly plausible things that may or may not have happened in our spy agencies, US agencies... Dotcom mansion and all those involved - is this one story or several all overlapping seemingly around Dotcom but quite probably he is but a tiny part of a much larger (and possibly perfectly innocent, by intelligence standards) spy story

The only certainty is that people are lying and covering their tracks over multiple things which seemingly might interconnect

  • Hard News: Circumstance and coincidence, in reply to izogi,

I don’t buy DPF’s complete dismissiveness as for me there are clearly questions here which need answering,

His complete dismissiveness all but screams Campbell is onto something which the story alludes to but hasn't quite nailed yet - I doubt we the public will ever know the real story but like all things sinister and spy related we don't have to, we just need for our representatives to do right by us the voters and citizens of this nation not those of other nations

As for the alleged lies told by Key - its quite a feat he has with memory, over certain topics he seems to have serious memory impairments (to the point we should perhaps be worried about our countries leader) and yet others complete clarity - all of which adds to the leap to conspiracy theories... which can only be solved by, transparency honesty and openness, that stuff he campaigned and promised when National first came to power under his leadership
