I knew Nickleback we're "gay" but not gay!
Actually I would like to withdraw the ! and replace it with (shrug)
And Le Tigre aren't gay they've got that manly keyboardist. And the Eagles of Death Metal wear leather and have thick manly moustaches - SO not gay.

I guess the additional distance between the site and the CBD transport facilities would only be a little longer than that from the Wellington CBD to their stadium
Just to quickly clarify something. Wellington's transport hub isn't technically in the CBD, it's roughly 400m from the stadium (for trains, a little bit further for buses).

Hollywood has made fistfuls of money by taking television programmes and turning them into movies (Star Trek, X-Files, The Beverly Hillbillies).
So now that we've got our own thriving movie industry how about some local content up on the silver screen?
The Constant Gardener: Jim Mora travels the country endlessly digging up the backyards of elderly ladies. But when his partner Mary Lambie disappears from the nations TV screens he is thrust into the murky underworld of television and politics.
Twelve Monkeys: In the middle of the ocean is a mysterious island covered in film crews. 12 "celebrities" awake to find themselves left on this island with little to sustain them but virus filled cockroaches. One by one the celebs are removed until one remains. Similar to Castaway, the role of the volleyball is played by Nikki Watson.
Blow: Something starring Marc Ellis and Matthew Ridge
Holmes - Cultural Learnings Make for Benefit Glorious Nation of New Zealand: We send ridiculously "over the top" fake reporter Paul Holmes out to interview people with hilarious consequences.

I take back everything I said about the Friday night slot being a good idea.
It's a stupid idea, maybe Saturday morning would be better. After all EML does have cartoons.

The one and only thing I could see going for the North Harbour idea is that Eden Park would still have to exist for Auckland rugby matches.
-
Side78:
What terrorists? The French? That is only a vague possibility and only if we beat them to get into the finals.Eden Park is owned by a trust isn't it so all the money will go back to them.
The "iconic bridge" you point out would be in the way of all of those very tall yachts that like to park at the viaduct.
Still, Ports of Auckland are going to merge with Ports of Tauranga meaning that it is possible that PoA could send some of their business to PoT while the construction is going on. Which might help the deal.

satdium = stadium (darn it)

I wasn't too impressed with the Waka idea, but it's going in the right direction.
What about a Rangitoto homage? A satdium that looks like a giant volcano rising from the seabed with maori designs all over it.
Oooo then you could have "rock" walls at ground level and how about a climbing wall on the harbour side of it. That's be cool. Anyone want to give me $700M to do it?

At the R.E.M. concert last year (New Plymouth version) we got The Checks and Brighteyes! (R.E.M. were great too)
I felt that the Checks had the edge over Brighteyes (Peter Buck even played the riff from What You Heard). My friend disagreed, but what does he know.

Cheers Nigel.
I am really hoping that the new channels will mean more local content. Personally I think a 24hr news channel will be naff, doesn't the internet do that whole 24hr news bit so much better than anything else?
But the opportunity for good shows to be replayed at decent times (i.e. times that don't disrupt my beauty sleep) makes the whole thing worth it.
But more new stuff will be the best! Especially more local comedy, currently we've got...Bro'Town and...(tumbleweeds)
