+ to all
Congrats to you to Russell - compared to other blogs I love the way you are fully in your blog, boots and all, mixing and mashing it up, occasional biffing it out but above all engaged. +10 to you Russel -
Russell thanks for the Jon Stewart links - very very funny - loved it . I'm with Mark we need to see him free to air in NZ , gives me hope in Americans.

Hey Mr Savidge thanks for that link. Its wonderful , great to see the man off the stage, not a orator, unrehearsed but very very real , authentic and with tears of pride for those who helped.
"ripples of hope" -
Yes I was happy and relieved to see Obama get back in. Thanks Tracey for the stats on who voted for him, it is inspiring and perhaps you are right about a sea change in the US, hope is good.
On another note ..
119 million Americans voted (according to the Wash Post) ie around 60% of eligible voters or in other words 80 million American voters didn't give a shit, or they were blocked by the dark republican tactics and gerrymandering.50% voted for Obama ie 59 million. Considering how dominant the US is in global affairs, that's 59 million people getting to tell us non Americans how the world should be run, but more importantly 80 million who don't or can't give a shit.
I reckon the rest of the world should get those 80 million unused votes.
Add 80 million global citizens to the "Brown, black, young, gay, urban and female" vote and I reckon Obama would have barely needed to campaign.Oh and we want global voting rights in the House of Representatives and the Senate as well.

Hard News: The Watching World, in reply to
Kim Hill had an interview last Saturday morning with a woman who said the electronic voting process is so corrupt that the Democrats had to be at least 6 points ahead to ensure a victory, and that exit polls are banned in many states as they show up the discrepancy.
Yeah I listened to that interview with Victoria Collier with horror. All the electronic voting systems are privately owned, mainly by Republicans. Mitt Romney's son, Tagg Romney, is apparently buying all the voting system companies he can . Shit even Anonymous is in on this action with this warning for republicans.

Go Pete - I am with you. Actually I have never drunk a Moa beer but from now on I shall spit on Moa beer and challenge those who drink it.
I feel similarly about Tui , don't know why , maybe it was the Tui women brewery workers ad . The only place I have every drunk Tui is in Ngawi near cape Palliser , they have an excellent and illegal pub there that only serves Tui , nothing else.
Tui beer and fresh caught cray by the dozen -- oh yes oh yes -
OnPoint: MSD's Leaky Servers, in reply to
The Australian equivalent would be walking into a Centrelink office and casually looking up the names of children in state care and what medications they are prescribed, or who was under investigation for welfare fraud
Brings up a good point. Many years ago (10) I worked for IBM as a kiosk specialist, I initiated those very useful check-in kiosks at Air NZ for one and had many other kiosk projects. The Australian CentreLink kiosk system was well know back then as robust a secure, ok maybe the user interface left something to be desired but the back-end system was solid.
Fully locking down a kiosk is not rocket science and especially not these days.
Trying to lock down WIN95 ( yes that far back) was a nightmare only solved by alternative OSs .WINZ cleary didn't get any serous outside help on this project , nor did they check what their Aussy counterparts had done. In my experience then getting kiosk systems fully locked down, bullet proofed and properly monitored was not a trivial task and costs money. I remember too many clients thinking a kiosk should cost not much more than a PC - hey its just a PC right - when it fact they are 3-4 times the cost.
Cut costs = increased risks -
Seems to me the purpose of the leak was to distract from the real issue - ie why was MSD so woefully incompetent and at what level did this incompetence go to.
Seems to me the distraction is still working.

Loving the surreal diversion here
This bar doesn’t have any bourbon but it does make a very nice Martini. My apartment is small, but it’s close to Cuba St. Ooh, you are awful, but I like you.
You are a member of the ACT party, and I am going to have sex with you.””
Ok Ok what happened next ?

I see a boy in man’s body trying – and failing – to look dominate with an unlit cigar .
I see a young woman about to throw something heavy at the camera .
I don’t blame her
