But seriously: when we planted our first truffle (T melanosporum) trees we were told it would take anywhere between 5 and 15 years to get production, so when we got our first truffle after 9 years we thought we'd done well. Nowadays, it would be normal to get production in 5-7 years. Not for the impatient, still...

We're on number three. Last one (the amazingly charming Peg) was NZ's first champion truffle dog. Rosie is a trainee truffle hound. She can find truffles, but hasn't worked out that it's her job...
