Hard News: Friday Music! Digging Doug, in reply to
shows Doug setting up in the Gluepot (I think).
Not 100% sure it's the Gluepot as the old place had carpet up to near the front as I recall, plus there is a stairway on the back right. Did the Gluepot have that? Somebody reckoned it was in New Plymouth, somebody else said it was the Waikato Students' Union.
Doug can't remember.

Maybe “urban” has outlived its usefulness, but you have to ignore a few things to declare its origins racist.
Not least the way it was widely embraced as ‘Urban Pacific’ and then ’Urban Pasifika’.

So she may have thought about this matter after her manager made the entry, I guess. Good on her.
Who knows, but either way, it's got her a hell of a lot more press than just winning the award.

Or Donald trump gets impeached for something or another. Then it’s business as usual for the Republican Party. And we start a new thread about John Key being a dickhead.
That assumes that the democratic processes and checks are allowed to continue as is. Paranoia perhaps, but we already have promises to tighten the first amendment. And protesters are being tagged today, from the orange twitter account, as "Professional Protestors" (incited by, of course, "the media").

You may have taken the picture of the supergroup but I took the picture in the picture! A young Ned Roy winning the first NZ DJ Champs at The Siren. (and just saw my handwriting on the Meemees poster above 😀)
That's a nice buzz of sorts.

Aw Gawd. I see someone suspiciously similar to late 80s me… Any idea which gig Simon?
It wasn't a gig as such, it was The Asylum which was the house club Tom Sampson and I hosted in the venue when there were no booked bands. We had a roll-in/roll-out club wherein we turned the place into a pop-up club. All detailed on these ancient pages.

Wow… only two years as The Galaxy
Closer to 3 I think - The Galaxy was January 86 I think until about Sept 88. The stage was moved then and it was reopened in time for Run DMC in November as The Powerstation.
The pic is the old stage/dancefloor at The Galaxy fitted out as The Asylum, 1986 (Jackson was probably somewhere in this shot).

Ah, I can see what’s happened here. There was a more recent Galaxy on Mt Eden Road – it’s now the Powerstation. I’ll let the editors know.
The 60s one was the Galaxie (in Little Queen Street, off Lower Queen Street, and owned for a while by Eldred Stebbing – hence the Zodiac bands that played there). The Mt Eden one opened in 1986 and was The Galaxy (uppercase T and a y) and was owned by Phil Warren and Don Lillian. When they sold it in 1988 it became The Powerstation (the stage was moved at the same time).
Has been tweaked :-)

Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs, in reply to
It's not as if we're talking about a handful of bigots here - those polls scare me.
Indeed but large parts of many countries scare me.
I admit to being something of a poll junkie and was gratified to see the slew of national polls arriving at 538 yesterday afternoon (US time) all giving HRC two to six points, which was quite a turn.
HRC scares me too and it really is the best of two evils, but the chasm between the two evils is vast.
If Trump does get in, the only thing that would lessen the blow is that the senate is leaning strongly Democrat.

For Bowie fans from 1980
1973 I think. 1980 just sounded so far in the future to us all back then.
