  • Hard News: Nasty mixtures,

That's a fairly fundamental part of the story to get wrong. I only caught the end of the interview with the ESR guy on National yesterday afternoon, so didn't pick up on the actual story. I was really struggling to understand why someone would put an expensive illegal substance into a cheaper legal party pill. Unless it was a loss-leader to get brand loyalty... Anyhoo, thanks to RB for digging a little deeper and clearing up more un-journalistic behaviour from the main stream media.

I suspect that the best option is to make (relatively) safe ecstasy available via pharmacies. Getting high-quality ecstasy from a known supplier would likely result in a collapse of the P market (as well as that of the less-than-great BZPs) and probably a drop in alcohol-related crime.

    Bring on the Soma!

Edward - check out my post two up from yours. I think the media device you want already exists...

  • Hard News: The Suicide Note,

AppleTV seems like a bit of an old idea being brought to the masses through good marketing (Apples obviously mastered this!) There's plenty of players out there already that play content from your computer on any TV perfectly well. And without all the protection, limited content and palaver that iTunes puts you through. Check out http://www.airlinktek.com/english/prod_mg350.htm, it'll wirelessly stream and play content (pretty much any media format you can think of except RM or RMVB) from your PC or Mac. Plus you can chuck in any size 3.5" hard drive and play it on any tv - anywhere. Sure its pretty ugly, but it works!

  • Hard News: Because I am weak,

If we truly need a massive "world class stadium" in NZ, why has it not been raised till right now? It might be great to have the final of the RWC there, but surely its more important that we get this thing right - we only get one chance.

If the idea of delaying building the stadium, and thereby missing the World Cup, is unacceptable, the question needs to be asked; do we really need it? I think the answer to this question is no. Sure, the World Cup is a catalyst but if it's the be all and end all of it, why bother?

That’s a fairly simple question that doesn't seem to have been answered yet.

Personally I would rather wait and keep pushing for the waterfront to be developed for a decent public open space (eternal optimist...) that everyone can enjoy. Not just sports enthusiasts.

At least this argument has started the Ports thinking seriously about moving and helped Aucklanders realise that we really want something better for our harbour edge.
