McCoskrie again, scaremongering over cannabis edibles. I think that insuring that these particular formats don't get across the line is reasonable, but it's no real reason for maintaining prohibition:

As Linger said above, polydrug use " is simultaneous use of multiple drugs, possibly as one product combining several drugs", although I used it in the sense of additional drugs apart from synthetics. My point was, what if it is the admixture of those substances that creates the problem? And have the producers of new substances adequately subjected their products through clinical and field tests to ascertain risk and potential toxicity beforehand?
-
To what extent is the problem synthetics, and to what extent is it synthetics and polydrug use?

I didn't. In fact, I never have used recreational drugs, but I am a strong believer in evidence-based research and public policy based on it across the board, as opposed to junk science. I believe in harm minimisation and risk reduction. When it comes to premature use, we will need to do considerably better than we have when it comes to preventing susceptible young folks preloading and binge drinking.

It'd be interesting to have an overview of how much damage the Muldoon era's authoritarian populism and contempt for evidence-based professional research and expertise did when it came to drug policy in the seventies and early eighties. Is there such a reference available?

Two new television opinion polls seem to show opposition to decriminalisation of cannabis for personal use (unsurprisingly, particularly amongst National voters and 55+ voters): https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/113377450/new-polls-show-more-kiwis-against-legalising-recreational-cannabis
