If she becomes PM - or even if she doesn't, it'd be a total no-brainer for Laneway to have Jacinda Ardern reprise her DJ appearance from a few years' ago.
Even if she just did 30mins, it'd be great.

Hard-working New Zealanders are not an ATM for Saudi sheep farmers, Sky City or Orivida.

Hard News: That escalated quickly ..., in reply to
Labour’s new campaign slogan just got announced. It’s a lot better …
Also, the actual advert is very effective. The graphics are simple and uncluttered, the words succinct and to the point.

Turei's made the same mistake Andrew Little did when he talked about offering his resignation to senior Labour MPs after those bad polls: she thought out aloud when she shouldn't have.
Also, while her wanting to feed her child, etc, is understandable, when it comes to politics and this sort of thing, well, two words: Caesar's wife.

Very smart move to have Kelvin Davis as deputy, too.
This gives Labour a good city / provincial, male / female, Pakeha / Maori balance.
He'll give Labour a lot more appeal in the provinces and to the middle-class bloke demographic that, rightly or wrongly, has trended towards National in recent years.
I see that yesterday The Spin-off also looked at Grant Robertson and Stuart Nash as potential leaders. I reckon that in a future Labour-led govt, Robertson will obviously be finance minister and Nash will be a senior minister but also their designated "bovver boy" as Mallard was for Clark, Birch was for Bolger and Prebble was for Lange.

It's a sad day here in Dunedin, Russell. I first met Roi in the late '80s and last spoke to him only late last week in George St.
The first words he ever spoke to me were "Are you going to Snapper tonight ?". I was and they were superb, of course.
In the early - mid '90s and, after I came back here, in the early '00s, I was lucky enough to hold the fort at Records Records if was on holiday out central or away for a few days or whatever.
A rather considerable proportion of my record collection was bought at the shop. My friends and I always used to marvel at how cheap they were, compared to what you'd pay in Auckland or Wellington.
He was, of course, a font of knowledge about music - and often hilarious anecdotes about various NZ musicians - but also about sport, too.
Thanks Roi, you were one top bloke.

the artist himself was due to appear in court today. Any updates would be very welcome.
He's pleaded not guilty and has been remanded at large to appear again in August, according the ODT

If you want to read a superb book about this somewhat misunderstood genre, I highly recommend Rob Young's excellent Electric Eden. It's a cracking read and goes well beyond any of the stereotypes about the genre - which is just as adventurous and ground-breaking as any other you care to mention.

The way much of the news media sees it, on the other hand, is OMG JACINDA’S SO POPULAR SHE SHOULD REALLY BE DEPUTY LEADER AND MAYBE EVEN LEADER
An idea not helped by the schmucks at One News who had Ms Ardern captioned as "JACINDA ARDERN LABOUR LEADER" last night in the story.

I was there. I was about as close as Simon, but a bit more to the right. What an incredible gig it was. I've seen hundreds of great gigs over the years from the obscure to the massive stars, but this was easily one of the best I've ever seen.
