  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

I saw it decades ago in Dunedin, a double feature billed as "The worst movies ever made"

In 1984 Channel 4 ran a Friday night special called The Worst of Hollywood over most of the year. They showed the movie at The Scala with a pre and post film commentary / panel and it was broadcast simultaneously on TV.

We made it to the Scala quite a few times and Ed Wood featured strongly in the series (I liked Bride of the Monster which from memory was the one where Bela Lugosi died after filming and Ed replaced him with someone who looked completely different for a few shots that needed reshooting), however They Saved Hitler's Brain was my favourite in the season. A head on the backseat of a limo in Argentina yelling 'schnell! schnell!' may or may not be worth seeing but at the time it was an evening well spent.

The problem is I'm in Indonesia and there is a fair bit of stuff that I simply don't have physical access to as it's under lock and key. I've been loath to put some of my old catalogue online until I can get to the masters and do it properly and there are quite a few live tapes and the like of early 80s bands. I'm hoping to get it all sorted and go thru what's there in the new year.

and hotdamn, but the Features are timeless. looking forward to the album.

so am I. The tapes sat in my storage space for 25 years and it was a problem to transfer as the old Harlequin Studios 8 track and anything like it are long gone.

4 of the ten tracks of course were released in 1980 as The Features Exposed 12" but Jed has reworked them extensively and the few I've heard so far are quite something.

My head hurts a wee bit.....

I've had a swag of photos sent thru or Facebooked to me. Most of my old comrades in arms are looking a bit grey around the edges. It kinda hits you when you don't see them daily as you used to.

Yep, but it gave me a good chance to do a Mad Dogs and Englishmen rant ;)

For a moment, I thought you were going to comment on the flavour of the taxi driver you'd eaten...

Gawd....I wouldn't dream of it..we shared a christian name (he was West Timorese and thus Catholic).

I'm guessing it's down to what you feed them with. Like chooks.

Not likely, the chook is worth much more here. As food and as entertainment. Amongst the things that don't make the guide books and TV travel shows is the quaint habit of village Cock fights.

The warungs that serve RW (big letters outside: Ada RW) which is dog are pretty common off the main roads. Mostly street dogs that just get picked up on the street, and live on scraps, but a warning went out a few weeks back that pet dogs, especially black ones, were being stolen to provide a pricey delicacy (and little ones for religious ceremonies) in the better places in Denpasar.

  • Hard News: Pomp and Circumstance,

That'd be more in the vein of the hapless Geoffrey Palmer's playing his cornet from the roof of the Beehive, with Paul Holmes tagging along behind like an organ grinder's monkey

hell, I'd forgotten that. Does it still exist? If so, surely YouTube beckons.
