That’s pretty much exactly what I did. I learned my great-great-great-grandma Margaret was not only a staunch defender of Te Kooti but also an early critic of colonial psychoactive substances practice.

As for a contribution to Antipodean Lamarckism…

Incidentally for anyone wishing to sign the petition for reinstatement of the family reunification Visa (with dramatically reduced terms) here’s the petition.
As I understand it, only the Māori Party currently supports this.

Speaker: Low-quality language on immigration, in reply to
the Chinese sounding names episode
What would have been ironic would be Labour having actively opposed the suspension of the family reunification category – which was tailored in part to help accommodate Chinese people - while simultaneously campaigning against the Chinese name cohort buying houses.

Are you saying it's life Jim but not as we know it?
Few - I suppose - would have found the tenancy tribunal or any other Government department as dogged and efficiently hostile as WINZ/MSD in its holding to account.
Pointing out capitalism's folly is timely, then concluding as you have - on the struggles of the homeowner class - reductio ad absurdum - displacing the poverty and inequality central to the campaign, likewise is timely for some.

A respectful and comprehensive piece Russell. Tangentially: a textbook example of how readily English as a language lends itself to relitigation of the past.
There are also some Green Party staff furious at how this has gone down. How, they ask, was this not thought through? How could this not have been signed off by the whole Green caucus? They feel let down
I had a conversation with a right-winger on the day or day after the AGM and discussion naturally turned to “what about the flatmates?”. As many who’ve been on benefits know; the system is designed to hold one accountable to every little detail – in spite of the complexity of life. So I’ve had difficulty wrapping my head around this aspect of things given that ideally one expects the advisors to be prepared for every contingency, and failing that being at least be a couple of moves ahead of the game. What happened?

Just want to say, some of us are listening:-) I’m pissed off about how we neglect transgender peoples basic needs.
Thanks steven, that means a lot.
That a 50 year surgery waiting list seems to have been ruled out as a campaign talking point by all opposition parties speaks volumes about trans erasure in New Zealand.
