Andrew is also the author of a very welcome profile of Bruce Russell.
This is an epic piece - which I can't just process just now. I note a recording “Ice-floe-sized bursts of sonic debris” that Bruce made at the Auricle in Christchurch in late 2013 is now available. Also on same bill was Roy Montgomery's "Less is More" - both can be downloaded as mp3 files.

If the coach is going to be Douglas Lilburn, the how about Len Lye as manager! His 'music' is amazing, links via Visual Music and Experimental Film

for me, the song evokes a strong sense of place, and that wasn't the place
Absolutely. I was pleased that the video had arrived but it ain't Canterbury:(
I anticipated (apart from the landscapes) footage of the protester jumping on the roof of Key's car... but that would have been too obvious I guess. And getting into a narrative Tono wanted to avoid (in his brief to Avril).

I find it fascinating that the Australian handwringing over the recent executions of two of its citizens in Indonesia doesn’t seem to allow them to also address the failed war on drugs. I would have thought that it would be impossible to separate these things.
In the Press today, The Indonesian case for executing for drug traffickers by Jose Tavares, the Indonesian ambassador to NZ.
Beyond a scant recognition of 'rehabilitation centres' for drug addicts, this is another example of a country which maintains the 'war on drugs' - and fails to recognise the death penalty doesn't deter the determined.

Candice sometimes plays at the Porthole. Have seen her play and sing with Jack Montgomery. Can't find the song you want Hebe - 'Run for It'. It's blocked for the moment on YouTube.
But there's this track, 'Helping Hands' (audio), written by Candice (and Kevin Allison) for the purpose of raising money for CanTeen New Zealand, an honourable cause in anyone's books. And video:
Knew I'd seen Kevin's name somewhere before - he owns the Angels Gate Recording Studio in Sydenham. Originally from the US, he used to be part of Stevie Wonder's crew.

the Barbadoes Cemetery
The cemetery? There were 'celebrated' 2 storey flats across the road on cnr Cambridge Tce and Barbadoes St between cemetery and S&G, painted green in their later life, now gone post-quakes. Never went there but heard it was a scene for parties and musicians. I think Bill Direen may have resided (and composed) there for a while.
S&G. A long while now. Still nothing Into The Void its demolition eons ago has left. And yeh, those Sat afternoons at Gladstone, often in summer. Remember the heat once getting the better of a young Shayne and Wayne, soundly admonishing their drummer, Herbie Fuckface!

Heard about this Friday night from Dave at Galaxy Records - Mick Harvey is back! With the Intoxicated Men. He is playing four centres including the tiny Gallery (holds ca. 75-80) next to the Darkroom and Galaxy. While since I listened to him and hadn't realised he's a big fan of Serge Gainsbourg.
