And the influx of money to come into the city over the next 20 years from the foreign reinsurers' bank accounts
I hope so, but I fear CERA can order demolition, but not Insurers payouts.
A Great many buildings were either needlessly demolished or demolished to gain access to demolish a larger building.
If the building being insured was able to be repaired or was not required to be demolished at all, why pay a cent?

Brownlee bowed to Cosgrove with the foolish Kaiapoi development inside the 50 db CIA zone.
It's really not a Blue, Red or even Green thing. It's our city dying at the hands of central Govt playing off the population (Auckland) vs 20/25% of the GDP or Christchurch.
New Zealand will survive the Canterbury Quakes but will Christchurch?
Kyoto hasn't. Tokyo took up its slack. Japan didn't lose but Kyoto did.

Substantiated statements have it that the Anglican Bishop wants Christ Church Cathedral Demolished.
I hear even Sir Miles Warren (who worked on its Earthquake strengthening) had a great deal of trouble getting an audience and was not greatly encouraged by the response he got about saving the building.
The Bishop often talks about the Church being about people, not buildings. Forgetting for whom the buildings are made, by whom & who maintains them.
The people of Christchurch maintain the Cathedral, to the tune of over $1/4mil per year. It was built largely on civic donations.
The finacial burden of this building is born by the City of Christchurch and is not to be stolen by some Pom (Beck) & a fleeting visit by a Canuck (Matthews).

Unsubstantiated rumour has been said - Roger Sutton has presented his resignation on three seperate occasions to Gerry and it has been refused each time.

Indeed, I was always told of the joy of running through the dump by Mum & banned from doing it by Dad.

You're not kidding. Workmen scamble over the abandoned ruins pulling on wires & shoving them in their pockets, is a sight not far removed from picking up cans from the bin or ciggies from the gutter.
Joe - I think 20secs into that vid has a guy whose middle name we will all know soon enough from the court pages.

I see Radio New Zealand National Party have taken on the services of Graeme Thorne.
I only have pity for the man who is a little bitter with life as he constantly moves from failure to failure, forever blaming others.
