What if we wake up on the morning after and it's the fern flig, how are the traditionalists going to feel? And what will this revolutionary new wind bring with it, John Key and the National party, Ritchie and Dan, et.al. Business as usual. May as well call it job done and recoup the money spent by cancelling the next election.
Then, after the ensuing shit fight, we might get the flag we need not the one we deserve.

I remember the first Solar Plexus on Maungawhau in the mid 80's, I spent the day on the summit of Mt Donald McLean, the highest point in the Waitakere ranges, painting sun shadows, which would be smeared and erased by the mid winter squalls. I listened to some of the day long drumming broadcast by Bfm, on a wee transistor radio.

Is this flag going to stand for tangata whenua and manuhiri and the principles of partnership written into the treaty of Waitangi, or will citizens be voting along party lines? A vote for the ponga flag is a vote for John Key.
Will the flag be republicanism by stealth with Key as the first president? And will the ‘get in behind’ attitude of Matthew Hooten be amplified in this brave new world?

Seems to be a bit of the old concrete v abstract going on here. The triangular motif was never going to fly in such a literal culture. It's going to be a contest between 'the fern' and 'the flag', which in its current iteration is a concrete noun.

Adele managed to score the contract for Skyfall but the whiney Mancunian only managed to rip off the James Bond score in some dire homage.
As a non sequitur; to avoid either clip of Adele or Oasis latest bug from Beruit and their scant take on Brian Wilsons’ Smile.
