Kim Hill had an interview last Saturday morning with a woman who said the electronic voting process is so corrupt that the Democrats had to be at least 6 points ahead to ensure a victory, and that exit polls are banned in many states as they show up the discrepancy.

Can someone who was at the Kirk conference elaborate on what Andrew Little said about extending ACC benefits to those whose impairment is not due to accident? http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/7907461/Little-Change-ACC-illness-injustice
Seems a very good idea and honours the intentions of the Disabled Persons Community Welfare Act that I mentioned earlier.

One of the most significant acts of the Labour government was the 1975 Disabled Persons Community Welfare Act, Led by JB Munro, an MP and disability activist, it was intended to extend the benefits of ACC to people whose impairments were not caused by accident. The intention was a comprehensive system of disability supports and services mainly under the Department of Social Welfare. It also included the first standard for accessible building design (eg ramps). All dismantled by Jenny Shipley and Ruth Richardson in 1993.

Dawn raids occured mainly from the mid 70s under Muldoon. Not sure if prevalent in Kirk's time (up to 1974)?

Capture: Spring is Like a Perhaps Hand, in reply to
I just bought 6 tadpoles from the local Animates store last December. Forgot to ask where they came from. Everyone, including the man in the shop, told me they had no chance of surviving in a pond with 30+ assorted goldfish (the biggest about 20 cms long). So the fact that two turned into frogs and one at least has survived a year is pretty amazing. But it is a pretty wild pond and the frog(s) have found a safer spot at one end among the weed, waterlilies and purple water irises.

Several months ago I posted a photo of tiny little frogs that had grown from tadpoles I released into my goldfish pond last December. I assumed they had become part of the food cycle over winter but so excited to see one today much bigger and basking on a sunny waterlily pad. Disappeared before I could get the camera. Think its a green and gold bell frog. Bright emerald green with gold stripes. Very pretty.

Hard News: When we had hope and change, in reply to
I think those election ads were the work of young Bob Harvey. They were certainly memorable, and I still know the words. Kirk certainly had charisma. (But also some strange family members). The election system wasn't entirely fair either. Those were the days when it took fewer votes to elect a rural MP - the National Party ones - and it was generally much harder to enrol and have your vote counted. Conscription was a big issue as all 18 year old males were balloted, but couldn't vote. In the 1972 election some of the local anti-conscription activists were arrested and jailed so that they could not vote on election day, and in the event David Shand lost Wellington Central (a National seat) by only a handful of votes.

Three of us went to see this at the newly opened Lighthouse Cuba in Wigan Street (opposite the Havana Bar) which is a pleasant space, even for those who tend to be slightly claustrophic in movie theatres. The three hours plus included a 20 minute intermission just like the play itself. But even my adult (autistic) son stayed the course, and particularly liked the train set which looked like a replica of my father's 1920s Hornby set. The main character is very similar in movement and speaking style to a friend of his, which attests to the skill of the actor.

30,000 views in 12 hours. Lead news item on TV and radio. Minister even had to front up on TV. Not bad, Keith and PA.
