Hard News: The Public Address 2012 Word…, in reply to
Good to hear.
'Bonza' is another. I quite like 'neat' but not often heard these days. They probably define the decade people experienced the most intensely. -
I agree Jackie (not about the embarrassment) but about reclaiming such good words. There are a whole lot of very expressive words we no longer use, such as 'beaut' and 'groovy'.

Scoop is pretty impressive. I'm a long time fan. Alistair Thompson is a quiet New Zealand hero. Having said that it is quite unnerving seeing you (and other Scoopies) on the masthead of The Standard and asssorted websites.

I would also like to suggest a NZer of the Year - someone who stood up for people and principles in spite of powerful opposition.
Suggestions:
Mike Joy
Lance O'Sullivan (Northland doctor)
Keith Ng
Annette Sykes
Kim Dotcom
Most people in Christchurch -
My favourite is still cyber marae as it describes PAS so well. But not a widely used term.
So for WOTY I think Dotcom probably has it over PlanetKeyFor WOTD anything to do with social media eg hashtag, skype, tweet, twitter, facebook, smart phone, or political activism: Anonymous, Occupy or 1% (recent but hugely influential), or even climate change or Peak Oil
Or any noun used as a verb or vice versa (eg 'Here's your invite" or "I will Facebook you").

It might help them stick together.

Pleased to report that I have pomegranate molasses in the cupboard. Not quite sure how to use it to assist worker activism, however.

This is tangential to the main story, but I am intrigued to see a Dr Black being brought in by NZTA to dismiss residents’ concerns at pollution caused by the proposed Kapiti Expressway on their organic gardens at the side of the new road. I think it might be the same Dr Black who was called in by Telecom a couple of decades ago to criticise the concerns of locals about the cell phone towers then starting to appear on local churches etc.
My point is there is money to be made, carers to be enhanced, when you are an ‘expert’ on the side of powerful corporations. So those who speak out and risk the wrath of the powerful, such as Mike Joy, are real heroes.

Capture: The Castle, in reply to
That's just like my pond! I've got white, yellow and pink waterlilies peeping out from a clutter of leaves. Haven't seen my frog lately but next week I'm going to get some more tadpoles for another go at growing them.

Hard News: Fact and fantasy, in reply to
It’s been a major reason for tourism growth in NZ, and for why NZ is frequently cited offshore as a desirable destination.
Someone else will know for sure, but hasn't tourism to NZ gone down in the last few years, even with the PM as Minister?
