Access: Disability abuse: it’s not OK, in reply to
The root cause does seem to be thinking a disabled person is worth less - we get a constable rather than a senior detective, not worth all the fuss of doing their job and investigating and prosecuting, who's going to hold them up for it anyway, etc.

Polity: Cold, calculated and cynical, in reply to
They will have split a charter flight between a dozen passengers, to be fair. No profit.

RNZ's story is better:
Nathan's mother Angela Middlemiss said she believed justice would have been done if police had investigated properly.
"I'm actually scared for other disability families, because it now means that nobody has to take things seriously when it comes to disability, and that scares me."
Ms Middlemiss is also calling for the caregiver who left her son on his own to be named.
The caregiver was charged with manslaughter but then had the charge dropped earlier this month.
"Nobody knows who she is - she can still work today as a caregiver and it just feels like she got a slap on the hand and went: 'Oh, bad mistake'.
"So I just need her to accept the blame."
The IPCA report also said police should have sought a legal opinion before deciding not to prosecute.
Ms Middlemiss said law changes around disability care were needed to make sure no-one else had to go through what she had endured.

No idea why the new owner keeps backing these prize chumps as they destroy the value of their investment.

Hard News: A cog in the Mediaworks machine, in reply to
TV3’s failure to secure $10m+ of funding from NZonAir for their new soap
John Drinnan has some thoughts on that.
Hubris:
Judging by the NZ On Air response to MediaWorks, Weldon and co have been too confident. MediaWorks sources said the chief executive and MediaWorks board member Julie Christie had been blunt in discussions with the funding agency.
Greed:
"The [NZ on Air] board considered the business case for the application was not strong enough when considered as a whole. Issues included MediaWorks' inability to commit to the level of sliding scale investment the board had previously indicated it expected" - in other words, making the taxpayer's contribution smaller as the show became established.

How would Crone handle well-resourced nimby advocates like Ak 2040 - whose leader just told Todd Niall on RNZ that council should have to ask each homeowner individually before rezoning their suburb to allow 3 storey intensification.
The ones he mentioned by name? Mission Bay and St Heliers. Of course many of the houses there are 3 storey already - but they have one wealthy family living in them rather than multiple riff-raff who could afford to if there were terraced/apartment options. Some might even be brown!

Hard News: Victoria Crone and what…, in reply to
an allegedly funded campaign
Not seen that allegation. Link?
The credulous publisher would hardly require incentive to relay the ideological lines of an aligned libertarian dolt like Hide.
