I just fail to see why concert music is more deserving of advert free than any other music.
Because it doesn't come in little sound bites. Concerts take time and concentration. Concerts are about serious music - not necessarily European classical music - Indonesian gamelan and Hirini Melbourne and Richard Nunns recreation of early Maori music, for instance. Music with something to say. You certainly don't want to be dragged out of it at the end of every movement and told which firm to buy your mobile phone from.

I know there've been a large amount of silly comments made since, but I think this one takes the cake for callous disregard.
I'm very surprised no-one's mentioned it.
I noticed it, but it just seemed to embarrassingly ignorant to respond to.

I do like the constructive tone that's starting to dominate this discussion!

But if Concert goes down, you'll be stuck with the Four Seasons and the Flight of the Damn Bumblebee on endless rotate on ClassicalGasFM.
Nicely put!

Bad timing I guess, but having Joanne Black on today's The Panel won't do much to increase my warm regard of NatRadio. Another case of someone with excessive access to the public discourse?
Couldn't agree more about Joanne Black (and some other people) - that's why we need Concert Programme's relief from the National Programme between Morning Reports weekdays.

Jan, I just had a look at "Today on Concert", and saw nothing that I would label diverse.
George - I apologise for my lack of clarity - what I mean to suggest was that you scroll down the page that has 'Today in Concert', until you get to a separate panel called, 'Our Programmes'.
-
I want to see better support for all creative endeavours, and especially for what young people here find most relevant, including their diverse heritage.
Well that's part of the same issue, isn't it? Why would informed people be saying either/or on this one?

I enjoy Concert, but I don't think it's as diverse as you make out.
It might seem like that if you look at one day's programming - but if you look at the range of programmes available (scroll down to 'Our Programmes' - and I hope it's not as scrambled on your screen as it is on mine) I think it's got something for a lot of people (or taxpayers as we are known these days) - and it's unique in this country, and it's broadcast here, so we have an ability to influence it.

free ice-creams? I like it! Why not?
Icecream makes you throw up after a while.

My head has been hitting the desk with a certain metronomic precision this morning. Obviously the concert programme has taught me well.
You're a national treasure Giovanni - I recommend you be publicly funded!
