Careful of the, "they weren't interested in modern technology thing". It has been used in conjunction with the loss of technology theory (no bows and arrows), similar to the Aztec no wheel thing. The Australian Aboriginal culture is arguably the most seamless, streatching across 35,000 years; I guess they knew what they needed in order to survive.
