  • Hard News: Public Address Word of the…,

So, I think I deserve some props for voting for metadata, fuckstrating, and selfie in that order.

  • Hard News: We need to talk about Len, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

If any of them happen to represent the ward you live in, you have the ultimate sanction: Don’t vote for them.

Well I didn't, but Krum ran a campaign of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (actually let's just call it what it was: outright lies) over the unitary plan and the airport's flight path trial and the electorate lapped it up.

Incidentally it's not surprising that she doesn't have any declaration of interests for 2012: she wasn't a councillor then.

  • Hard News: Mandela, in reply to Chris Waugh,

And it was Bush the Younger who removed him from the US list of terrorists in 2008.

Yes, I was quite surprised it took so long.

  • Hard News: Mandela, in reply to Matthew Hooton,

In the way I view the world, being a child of the 1980s, he was alongside Reagan, Thatcher and Gorbachev in the sense of bringing tyranny to an end

It's interesting that both Reagan and Thatcher were strongly opposed to Mandela. Both of them labelled him a terrorist.

My take of that is they won’t be coming back. That was corporate speak for terminated.

It could very well turn out that way, though I suspect at the moment management are thinking "probably this will blow over in a couple of months so we'll stand them down until the new year and then reassess".

  • Hard News: Narcissists and bullies, in reply to Kumara Republic,

I was referring to the Roast Busters, not the girls who went to the police.

I think Danielle's point was that the claim that those guys had posted exaggerated accounts of their behaviour (and/or were joking) does not jibe with the fact that four of the girls complaining to the police. The girls didn't complain about lies being posted online, they complained about being raped.

Edited to clarify further: If those guys were exaggerating/joking then that would mean that those four girls were lying to the police and that is not credible.

The police have been lying since this broke. It’s appropriate now to start talking about police corruption.

Is this the extra stuff you mentioned you couldn't talk about earlier or should we be bracing ourselves for more?

Latest revelations make me eat my words – a 13 year old victim made a complaint and then got talked out of pressing charges by police.

    Fuck.

...it might have led to a prosecution for sex with a person under 16, and maybe other charges relating to the taking of non-consenting explicit photos.

The problem is really that these would be charges brought out of frustration about the inability to bring the more serious charges about which everyone really is very outraged.

If they were tried and jailed for sex with one victim under the age of 16 that would not in any way prevent them from prosecuting rape charges against other victims at a later date. And it would have prevented further crimes.

  • Hard News: Movie Disaster, in reply to Kyle Matthews,

After all farming seems to have survived OK losing (financial) subsidies.

When did that happen? The government was making drought payments last summer wasn't it?
