Thank you DPA for this series. I had intended to write something disability/election related but am suffering from fuzzy brain from election-itis which means I can't concentrate long enough to finish anything. Instead a lot of time is wasted on arguments in social media.
There are two policies I am hoping will become reality:
1) An inquiry into historic abuse in state care (the starting of which is now in Jacinda's 100 day plan)
2) An Aged Care Commissioner to highlight abuse and all the other issues in older disabled people (Labour/Green policy) -
What if you can't talk?

Jacinda Ardern says that metalwork was one of her favourite subjects at school. Perhaps she could incorporate your idea into her agenda. It would fit into their policies for education, night classes, employment and mental health.
But we need a network of such workshops around NZ, not just one. -
I really hope that Specialisterne sets up in NZ. I've been a fan of the idea since hearing Thorkil Sonne speak about it many years ago. It wouldn't suit my family, but could provide real employment opportunities for many.

That is Andrew Kirton, with the two tone collar, in some of the photos. Labour Party general sec and campaign manager. Same generation as Jacinda.

The arts are lots of things. It means access to music, art, crafts and museums for school kids. It means support for ballet, dance, drama and theatres. It means supporting and valuing creative people. It means investing in public broadcasting. It means respecting our built and cultural heritage. It means supporting the humanities as well as science and engineering. All that stuff that enriches our society.

Further to my comment a couple of days ago about the enthusiasm by Jacinda and Grant for investment in the arts and the role of the arts generally, following in the footsteps of Peter Fraser and Helen Clark. In the minor reshuffle Jacinda keeps Arts, Heritage and Culture and makes Grant Associate. Good news for the future.

Grant Robertson nominated Kelvin Davis as Deputy this morning. Years ago (probably about 2009), Colin James said that the next generational shift in the NZLP leadership would be Grant Robertson and Jacinda Ardern. So it's sort of happened, but not in the predicted way.

Last week Jacinda Ardern was the guest speaker at the annual Wellington Central LP’s Peter Fraser memorial lecture. The topic was Peter Fraser and his contribution to the arts. She and Grant as MC (who have a great relationship) bickered in a good natured way over the prized arts portfolio and who would have it in government. They raised serious issues about the lack of access to the arts in the current education system and to poorer kids generally. Jacinda said she would like to see every NZ child have access to the arts. They discussed the role of public broadcasting and how to implement it, and also potential ways to support artists and other creative people such as through the special benefit of the last government. These are the sort of conversations which don’t reach the media.
Anyhow after all this entertaining policy discussion there was the inevitable auction. Jacinda is the best auctioneer I have ever seen in action. She connected with every potential and ongoing bidder in an extremely warm and focussed way. Her handing of the media conference today showed some of that skill.

I wrote a longer version about three years ago in 4 parts. This is a condensed update. Happy to have corrections or additions from readers.
