Hard News: Jonesing, in reply to
I was just relfecting some earlier ageist language upthread

Ageing neoliberal is a good description of Jones. Add sexist. With poor judgement. I have yet to find any women (including Maori women) who support him as leader. I find it fascinating how many media commentators think it is their role to annoint someone as LP leader – so they look to someone who most reflects their own world view and values.

Thanks for this post, Emma. I have come across some nasty predator stories in my years in the disability sector. Mothers of disabled children, particularly of girls with intellectual disability or autism, seem particularly at risk. They are often lonely, isolated and poor. The predator grooms the daughters and then flatters the mothers.
In one case a man was eventually convicted of having child pornography, but coming from a powerful local family managed to get permanent name suppression. My friend was a brave survivor of his manipulations and several years later is still regularly harassed by him and members of his family who blame her and see no fault in him. Worst of all he is still in a position to get access alone to disabled girls, but as a private contractor is not required to have any police checks.
Also seems that some members of police, justice and welfare systems are just as ready to blame the victims as the abuser is. -
From my observation over the years, the people with the best ability to get to the essence of a problem and see simple and logical answers (whatever the issue) are People First self advocates. I don't want to sound patronising but I would like to see a group of People First members in a position of power to deliberate on our complex policy problems, perhaps through some sort of upper house. Many would be surprised at their collective wisdom.

Somewhere in the commentary about the Australian election I heard that Australia is about to join the Security Council, which probably means their rep will get their instructions from Abbott.
(Which will also mean no welcoming of refugees) -
Did John Key use the term 'political idol' because he could not admit that NZ Labour's got talent or some MPs and not him have the X factor

People with autism often react quite unexpectedly to all sorts of medications - they sometimes have the opposite effect to what is intended.

There is a very good anti inflammatory cream and tincture in the Artemis range which I have found helpful for PF, OOS, sprains etc (available at Commonsense organics and health food shops). But you might not approave of it.

Sorry, no quick cure. My podiatrist says it takes as long to go away as it does to develop (usually several months).
You need to find a very good podiatrist who will strap your foot and advise you about appropriate orthotics and my person custom made some to fit in my regular shoes. She also gave me a prescription for good supportive shoes (usually at one of those sport shoe places) where you have to walk on a mechine that measures your footfall etc. My PF developed early last year after doing too much walking on my 5 finger shoes which are really only for light athletic skinny people, and those ballet flat shoes that only young people should wear..PF is so painful. But by the end of the year it had mainly gone and now I only get twinges if I neglect to wear supportive shoes.
Get help now and make the children walk.

The main Labour/Green tension seems to be around the economic-growth-is-good-at-any-cost agenda versus saving the environment. Only last week that was manifested in Labour's refusal to support Green MP Catherine Delahunty's bill to clean up the heavily polluted Tarawera River. The decision by Labour to block vote against was criticised by many clean water enthusiasts. I hope the new leadership will be more willing to side with the environment and pursue 'growth' in more innovative ways by working with, rather than in opposition to, our natural heritage.
