Don that's the point
Oh I see. For a moment there I thought your point was that we were all a bunch of sycophants unable to participate in scientific discourse. At least we have cleared that up :-)
-
Is it a national desperation or a sycophantic self-supporting circle that any criticism must be fought to the death?
Way to go Michael.
But if you have any suggestions as to how I can pack more information into around five minutes then please let me know.
David, will you stop fighting to the death like that, please?
I am curious, Michael, is it no longer feasible for scientists to explain or bring science to the masses? See, I am hoping for an explanation from David of dark energy that I can understand.
My 8 year old thinks it sounds like what keeps magnets apart when like poles are pointed at each other. Maybe I'll just stick to that explanation as it would be a shame to offend purists' sensibilities.

Ford Anglia would have been a bitchin ride when you were impressionable
Well, speed isn't everything. My first car was a very old war torn Escort Mk1 whose suspension worked intermittently. When I hit 50mph on the M4 life got very interesting.

if my investment tanks, and the Cullen fund tanks...And if the property market tanks...If my elected kiwisaver fund folds
Also answers to the name of 'lucky'".
Seriously though, I think you have painted an act of God scenario.
Long term, the chances of two out of three of your investments doing well are very high. For example, people will always need somewhere to live.

Well yes, but we have all our eggs in the property market at the moment.
My point was encourage diversification of investment and as I said in another thread, statistically it makes sense to make some provision for retirement in these or similar schemes. Just don't make it your only provision is you can.
Given that the NZX has been flying rather high for some time, it would seem that investment is not confined to property, despite the hype.

Anyone got any comments on Matt McCarten's reaction to KiwiSaver?
I think what some people really object object to the use of private companies to essentially receive government funds.
For myself, whilst I may invest in them, I regard most pension / retirement funds, whether state delivered or private, as glorified Ponzi schemes.
They have their place but they are susceptible to collapse as many found out, especially in the 80s and 90s.
Basically, everything is a risk, eggs in one basket - don't place.

Best.Line.Ever
Just in case there is any misunderstanding I offer this definition of the adjective in question:
"full of or resembling pus"
(and add my heartfelt thanks to Websters)

Curses, I lack an "when Lou Reed and I" story. I do sometimes credit him on my presentations or reports as I invariably end up immersing myself in his music to get over those procrastination tremors.
To the critics - it is worth writing about a book when the author is well known, even if you didn't like it. Saved me some $$s on the 2nd Vicram Seth novel. While I am sure many liked it the reviews followed up by a flick through in the library were enough to save me $30.

Sally Can't Dance is not that good (it's not).
Jesus, I pop out for a day or two and PA turns to pot. Where are the moderators when needed.
Seems that its "back to the rain", always.

And just for completeness (have trumpet, will blow), New Zealand's premiere news site, stuff.co.nz, won the best sports site and best news story categories.
Congratulations to the Scoop guys for being up there in both the Netguides and Qantas awards.
But most importantly congratulations and thanks Russell & crew for PA.
