  • Hard News: Arrest the bastards at the border,

It is precisely these sorts of envy politics that force great entrepreneurs such as Fay and Richwhite to flee the country to more welcoming shores, and should they ever want to return, be compelled to purchase islands off New Zealand's shore.

    :-)

It wouldn't be so bad if they'd done a half decent job in ensuring a free market existed and that these companies had a long term plan for survival that didn't involve an asset strip and monopoly. I'm lucky, I don't need to use the trains (though Infratil's crappy and rapidly degrading buses I do use are competing for a new low).

I pay much more for transacting my Internet business than I should do, and we (nearly) all agree what a sucky internet infrastructure we have now been landed with. If these basics had been right in the first place the F&R guys would have been worth their 100s of millions and we could sit back and concentrate on catching the odd cheating beneficiary and make Craig a happy man in the process.

PS I notice Infratil are proud owners of "aiports", whatever they are. http://www.stagecoach.co.nz/company/international.html

  • Hard News: Arrest the bastards at the border,

when do certain pollies have to pony up and answer a few questions about all this.

Well, I am sure Richard Prebble could give us a few more funny and timely anecdotes about the inefficiencies of NZ Rail during his glorious days of control there.

Rogan, they were doing for the good of the country, and you know, if they had not earned so much some other country might have tried to poach them away from us. Then where would we be...

Yeah Craig, time to jump of that miniature pony of yours and think about what comparisons you are making. Two individuals who managed to fleece the country of $100's of millions, as well as arguably set up some rotten private monopolies (costing businesses and the public billions more) and all you can do is whitter on about some mythical levels of benefit fraud.

Your moral relativism is bizarre to say the least...

Stuff readers are obviously slightly more discerning.

I read this story (in at No. 1) with a shudder.

God, I hate flying in those small planes...

Oh, and on that citizenship thing. If someone feels they are a kiwi, no matter where they live, who they work for or how long they have been away, or how long they have lived here, we should welcome and embrace that feeling and fellowship. It's not like we dominate the world or anything.

ETNZ is a New Zealand team because they feel it is an New Zealand team. That's good enough for me.

    Don
Yachting on the weekend by definition puts you on the rich side of the divide.
A/ You have a weekend and not a 2nd or 3rd job with which you buy that luxury good electricity.

If you think that spending $35 on your sport of choice for your weekend puts you in the elite you must be posting from sub-saharan Africa.

I know there are people earning far to little in this country, but they are not the majority and for the most part $35 is not a life or death decision. To pretend it is insulting to anyone's intelligence.

B/You have $35 to waste on playing at a little Rum Sodomy & the Lash.

Whatever, mate. I like sports (pretty much all of them), I don't hate or deride folks that don't. You obviously do share that tolerance.

  • Island Life: Child's play,

It's hardly the game of the people is it?

New Zealand is the one country in the world where that statement is wrong.

Went yacht racing last weekend. Cost, $35 bucks. Hardly a millionaires' budget. Photos - it is as exciting as it looks in those pics.

Hence the interest, hence the passion (however mistaken it may be).
